I just got out of the shower. Got rid of the vinegar smell. What I have not said, is that 7 days ago, on my inner thigh partway between the front and back, just below the fold where the leg ties into the trunk, I got what seemed to be a boil. It's a hard place to see, so I felt, and squeezed. Gunk came out, but not the core. I covered it with a bandaid, and waited 2 days for it to fester, so I could get the core out, and be done with it.
Looking back, I did a LOT of sleeping those two days, and more than once I woke up feeling extra warm, but didn't really think much of it. Not enough to take my temp.
After the 2 days, on Sunday, it was really sore, with a lot of pressure, so I headed to the bathroom to squeeze, and get the core out. I barely touched it, and all kinds of gunk began coming out. I got my hand mirror to look. It was the size of a golf ball, and the whole top was festered. I didn't see any streaks indicating blood poisoning. I got it squeezed out, and flushed it multiple times with peroxide, then loaded it with triple antibiotic, without covering it. It was bad enough I was contemplating going to my doctor, but it was Sunday, so not open, and it felt so much better after I got it cleaned out, I decided I'd keep treating it, see how it was doing on Monday, and go from there.
When Dd #1 came in from the store, I had her look at it. She too thought I should go to my doctor, but agreed that as long as there was improvement, and no blood poisoning, it could wait until Monday. She used my camera, and took a couple close up pictures of it. In the pictures, we could see what appeared to be two places that could be fang/bite marks from a spider, or insect. Closer inspection of my leg, confirmed the possible bite marks. Even Dh agreed I might want to go to the doctor, if it was not better by morning.
The next morning, I squeezed, and there was no gunk. I flushed it with peroxide. It was significantly better, but there seemed to be a good bit of necrosis on the outer skin. Insect bites typically can do that. I took a small dose cup, put 1/4 part clorox, to 3/4 parts water, and held the dose cup to the wound, and cleaned the wound with it. It foamed some, which confirmed it was neutralizing the poisons from an insect/spider bite. I did that two times that day. The next day, everything looked sooooo much better. Yesterday, I began using Betadine on it. It's continuing to improve.
The problem is, where it's located. Wearing pants, it chafes at times undoing the healing, and scabbing. I have been wearing tank maxi dresses, to help with that, doing a LOT of lazing around, and walking a bit spread eagle whenever I absolutely have to walk. When I sleep, I have to be careful that when I'm on my side, that I don't put my other leg over it. That too softens the scabbing, then when I move my leg, it pulls it off. Still, it's not really painful, and it's continuing to improve, and heal. It's good enough now, I'm doing a bit more walking, but not overdoing it, so I don't undo the healing. A few more days with the way it's improving, and hopefully I'll be able to resume most of my normal duties.
Now you know why going to the feed store the other day, and getting out to clean out the IBC tote was such a big deal to me.
