Figured out how to see my previous posts and figured I'd update a bit. Been insanely busy since I became manager & ramped up my volunteering at the dance studio... weird how I don't have an hour each morning to scroll the site now that I'm spending $.
Kids are pretty good. The older one is finishing her first year in college. She's going to be lawyer. Since she was a year ahead she'll be graduating in 2 years then starting law school. She finally got her license in December. I'm still getting used to that. She was doing rowing and is still technically on the team, but her body couldn't handle the long practices and carrying the boats. She really enjoyed it so she was upset that she couldn't continue. She ended up coming home for a week in the fall bc she was having so many problems & was sick all the time. She's doing better now but regrets choosing a place so far away. I'm picking her up for the summer break next weekend. This weekend I get to drive down and pick up 1/2 of her stuff b/c it won't all fit in my car. Sister is working on getting her license and we had our first college visit last weekend. She'll be a senior next year. Last fall her syncope got upgraded to dysautonomia and her migraine meds were conveniently the same thing they'd prescribe to control that. She was supposed to go to Disney w/ her school band, but the trip was cancelled. She's hoping they reschedule it for next year. We were hoping to be able to buy a house this year, but apparently the only thing we can afford is a shack in the middle of a swamp with these prices. It's very discouraging.
Last December one of our studio teachers died after getting covid. She had lupus and a blood disorder, so it wasn't just covid. I'd taken her to the er the afternoon before and waited with her while they got her settled and started treating her, but she passed in the night. We are all devastated with losing her. She was about to turn 26, just a baby. In happy dance news, both my kids are still clogging and the younger one is still on the dance team. Our ballet was Lion King and next year will be Toy Story. This will be the last ballet my kids are in, but I'll probably still help out as long as my friend is still helping. We're not sure what's going to happen w/ the studio b/c the teacher who died was the reason the owner opened the studio.
Chickens are good. Still 9 of them. Everyone but Loki and toothless (and William, LOL) are laying, but not sure if there's a problem or they're late bloomers. I'm giving them another week or 2 to figure out what they're doing. I've started posting videos of them on Instagram since I have to sit out there w/ them to keep the murder birds away.
At work, we finally hired a pt person last fall & it's helping but he had a little IT & zero library experience. Very promising, but I'm Still having to follow both of them around making sure things are right. Our levy finally passed in Nov so we're getting a new branch and a bookmobile next year, so things will be even more busy. Plus next year is server replacement year so that's going to be fun.
AND, to bury the lede... Last fall I was driving to my dad's to deal w/ the chickens. It was really late and I was pretty tired... Then all of a sudden some big black thing started across the road. At first I thought it was a dog, but then I realized it was a black bear. I didn't directly hit it. As soon as I saw it I started to slow down and move across the road, but I did brush the bumper of my car against it. I'm still counting it as I hit a bear w/ my car. Such a weird experience that my brain didn't acknowledge that it was a bear. I also pet a deer w/ my car, but it ran off into the woods and was fine.
I think that's everything remotely significant. Ending w/ the bear b/c it's a fun story.
I hope everyone has been doing well. I've gone back a few pages, but it's so hard to see everything. I saw that Chicky is MIA, still stalking the others under "who replied" to see what's going on recently. Did they ever come up w/ a thing so you can see pictures w/o scrolling through each page?
Added a pic from Lion King. I did all the costumes, the other mom made the masks. The backdrop was a communal effort of several people.
