We use this brand as well but I do layer crumbles for the adult layers and their starter/grower for everyone else - both for the babies and adult coops with roos (+ oyster shell for the girls).

I've tried several brands and we weren't set on organic. But our birds just seem to do best on this. They love it and it isn't that much more money.

I've tried pellets as well but my leghorns would literally scratch it out of their feeder onto the floor. Since it didn't help with waste, we went back to crumbles and they all eat it well.

You that feed whole grains, what do you feed?
I feed Scratch & Peck Grower to all my flock since I have roosters with most of the hens and don't want to give them too much calcium. It's corn free and soy free and organic. I think having the grains whole keeps the food value better than when they are crushed. And I think that the chickens have the best idea of what they should eat and the whole grains let them pick and choose. They do waste a little bit onto the ground, but almost everything gets eaten. Whole grains that don't get eaten but are pushed into the dirt will sprout during most of the year and the resulting grass gets eaten by the chickens.
I was using New Country Organics Grower for a while but I had a problem hatch and lost some chicks. I'm not sure it was the difference in the feed, but I went back to Scratch & peck and the flock seems healthier to me although I won't know for sure until I hatch some chicks next Spring.

I fed them crumbles since they were babies... then switched them to pellets when they started laying. I am switching back to crumbles after we went through the first bag of pellets because I heard they eat less pellets (since they are full quicker) and then can start pecking each other. I already had an issue with pecking each other so I am switching back to crumbles, and I also got some scratch. I have used purina, dumor, and another one i can't remember the name of.
