Glad you are safe! I'm waiting anxiously to hear if a non chicken friend is safe. She was right in its path and hasn't had anything on fb, but lots of messages from family and friends trying to reach her

We were under tornado warning last night too. Watching it on the tv in the basement, whatever "it" was, was about two miles away from us. I don't know if there was damage, haven't been over there. I have a relative who will probably go check it out and report back to me. She texted me last night to say she and her DH were sitting on the porch watching it.... she'll probably show me pics and post them on FB. I just thank God we're all safe. I didn't grow up in Tornado Alley ... I'll just cower in the basement till it's over!

@Pyxis would you be able to describe the differences between chocolate and dun? I don't really understand what dun is. I know it can produce chocolate colors, but that's about it. I thank you for any help you can provide.

Looks like you did some reading on it already, but chocolate is a recessive sex-linked gene in chickens, same as it is in ducks. Males must get two copies for it to express, and females only one since they can only ever get one.

Dun is an incompletely dominant dilution gene, not sex-linked. One copy of the gene makes a bird Dun. Two copies makes it Khaki. It is at the same locus as Dominant white, which it is recessive to.
