Update: Of course i cannot hibernate until March! - Who would feed the ducks?

So i went back outside yesterday with the intention to harvest as much Mustard Greens as possible and right then this happened:

So instead i decided to haul wood-chips around the house to the duck yard and cover the developing mud-flat with those. It was a good decision because i did not slip later when serving supper to the ducks.

Aaaand this morning we had the first snow on the ground:

We got ours yesterday. The chickens refused to come out of the coop, and the ducks were also very puzzled by it. My Buff decided to swim in it, lol!

You're in the Arctic! 😉 It is normal for you to have snow in August! 🤣 Here we usually won't get snow before late December. Pinball Duck was correct, she predicted a long and harsh winter.
Last winter the ducks produced three episodes of »Les Miserables« here:
I am curious what will happen this year when the pond freezes over. I hope the Mallards decide to stay close to the house then.​
