Worrying news from Big Chimney:
Milka Duck disappeared on Sunday afternoon. Yesterday evening i got a text from my neighbor with a blurry picture of a duck in their driveway but we couldn't find it.
Today same neighbor reported that her dog and her cat were attacked and that the duck is sitting under her car.
Turned out to be missing Milka Duck with a terrible wound at her neck, a smelly wound…
I have cleaned it out as best as possible and sprayed Wound-Kote (that nasty purple stuff) on it. Milka is drinking sugar water and has just pooped. Not eating cat-food and meal-worms.
And right now somebody on an ATV is searching for two young dogs that have disappeared from a fenced-in garden… 😧
We have coyotes here and that sounds like what they would do. I pray that your Duck gets better and that the other animals are safe. They will attack in broad daylight.

Dang, that's terrible. Hopefully something can be done about the 'yotes and/or they move on. My only experience with them was two years ago, I could hear their howls getting closer every night, until one night they were HERE. A second night they were in our woods, but after that they kept moving further away.

I hope Milka Duck recovers from this. You've had such a rough year!

That's a sign of infection. Do you have any Baytril or Bactrim to give her?
She is keeping me busy and she stinks!
No i don't have Baytril or Batctrim but i have Doxcycline tablets. Those don't dissolve in water at all and i have not tried to force one down her throat as the wound is too fresh. I don't want to risk fighting with her and make the wound bleed again. Have treated the wound repeatedly with the blue stuff and maybe she will end up in the bathtub this afternoon because, as said she stinks! She smells so bad that i can locate her with my nose, but the small has changed from rotten meat to - umm - garbage, sweat and poop. I assume she is very dirty and her belly feathers need a thorough cleaning. Depending on how her neck looks…

I rang the alarm and everybody is on the lookout. There was a sighting of a grown up Coyote with two younglings this morning. (mom and two pups?)

I pray that you can keep the rest of your flock safe. Once the coyotes know where there is food they will be back to try to get more ducks.
The ducks an myself have done some preparations: I have sharpened my machete and am always carrying it when outside.
The ducks, well they know that they're safe in the pond, so they decided to stay on it 23/7:
An hour a day to rush down to the house and grab some food when they spot me outside and know its safe. Duck-egg production is now equal to zero…
