Dang, that's terrible. Hopefully something can be done about the 'yotes and/or they move on. My only experience with them was two years ago, I could hear their howls getting closer every night, until one night they were HERE. A second night they were in our woods, but after that they kept moving further away.

I hope Milka Duck recovers from this. You've had such a rough year!
Yes, this year has been tough and beautiful at the same time. It is still beautiful to have the now grown up duck(ling)s walk straight up to me and snuggle (actually more biting my legs, demanding food). But on the other hand there were so many dead ducklings this year and that stings my heart.
Here is a picture of Milka yesterday evening in the cardboard-box shortly after the first blue-stuff treatment

Because she is such a calm duck, she is allowed to roam free inside the house (thank's for the hardwood floors!). She is silently seeking out the coldest spot she can find and then laying down there to sleep. She is drinking a lot of water with vitamins and sugar. Eating here and there, she doesn't like meal-worms very much but has eaten all the tomatoes we offered.

I pray that you can keep the rest of your flock safe. Once the coyotes know where there is food they will be back to try to get more ducks.
I've heard them right up behind the fencing in the woods boy is it nerve-wracking when so close. They come around in the day time too.
The thought of buying a real weapon came back to my mind, but what would be the best to defend against coyotes? Shotgun? Pistol? Rifle? Blunderbuss?

The ducks an myself have done some preparations: I have sharpened my machete and am always carrying it when outside.
The ducks, well they know that they're safe in the pond, so they decided to stay on it 23/7:
An hour a day to rush down to the house and grab some food when they spot me outside and know its safe. Duck-egg production is now equal to zero…
They're laying the eggs IN the pond. In a month, you will have ducklings coming out of the ooze.

When they are stressed the egg count goes way down to sometimes nothing at all. They might have witnessed Milka Duck getting carried off and know danger lurks nearby for them. They say that they can sleep on a pond to stay safe. That is good. I hope you do not have any snapping turtles. Stay safe Duckies, Good Luck Frank.

Rifle my son says or AR15.

Do you feed your ducks poultry feed?
The dux here eat a wide variety of food: Basic of everything are the layer pellets, available 24x7 in the duck-run. Additionally they get yellow-corn, cracked-corn, scratch grain, cat-food, meal-worms, kitchen-scraps, stale-bread, fodder and whatever they find outside.
