It really looked like VW beetle with that snow cover. One of my uncles had one of these in the 70's. Tanks are impractical in cold weather too, they lack interior heating systems and use too much fuel…
Love the Kia Rio, its a nice sized common-sense car. I had a Suzuki Forenza before i got the Outback and i would have opted for a small car again, but i need something that is able to tow more than a ton and has all-wheel drive to deal with my crappy driveway...
That's the thing. I can barely get up the steep driveway in the winter, let alone drive these mountain back roads.

Yes, the door to the duck-run is open and the pellet dispenser is kept full, just in case the dux re-discover their common-sense. This noon was crazy, they ran down from the pond and in the middle their feet got cold, so they sat down and started to slide downhill, bobbing over the bumps in the snow covered grass. 🤣
And they really hesitated to go back up, but in the end they did. I need to get dressed and climb up there to evaluate the situation...
If it's slippery be careful Frank. Sometimes we can get hurt trying to take care of these little Boogers. Been there done that. I was just lucky I didn't knock myself out when I fell in the mud and hit my head on the doghouse I keep one bowl of their food in a couple of years ago.

Power went out for about five hours. From around 8:30ish pm to 1:30 am. So thankful for the propane furnace.

It was really boring though without my computer. Tried to sleep, but wasn't able to. As a matter of fact, I still haven't slept. Time to go try it, again, and hope my brain stops wandering. Wish there was an off switch for it!
I know how that feels, but more often i'm in the opposite situation: My brain is exhausted by sitting in front of my computer the whole day and my body wants to move...

Our main group of ducks are one year old today. Gooo ducks :)

It's been a deepy frozen week but they are doing well. I bet they'll be happy when their kiddie pools are full again though. We are promised a swing to +14 C (57 F) on Thursday, followed by a full day of snow (??) .
Happy Hatch Day Duckies! 💚🎂💙🐜

The forecast here is a mixed bag too:

Lousy cold days and nights alternating with relatively mild days. Snow-showers, icy-rain and bright sunshine…
😵

Frank it was a high of 11 degrees here in Ohio, did your pond get frozen and are the ducks okay????
I assume 11 degrees means 11 Fahrenheit (-11.6°) - that is lousy cold!
The cold is supposed to arrive here this night, we had between -1° and -2° here today (28-30F) but tonight we're forecasted to drop down to -7° (19F), right now we're at -3 (27F).
There is not a single flake of ice on the pond:

I have recorded a video, the picture above is a frame from that, but i cannot upload the video because my internet is still not working, i'm using my phone as a hotspot but that's slow and expensive.
The dux are happy ducking and diving, if i can de-ice the garden hose, i will spray the whole hill-site with water on Tuesday night and turn it into a gigantic Schlitterbahn. They will all schlitter down to the duck-yard, but won't be able to walk back up the hill and have no choice but to sleep in their house.
I have already removed the snow from a path to the dux-house door to entice them to waddle into the duck-run:

Due to the wind last night, their floating island came loose and is no longer floating in the middle of the pond, but on one side. No longer predator safe. Pressure is mounting dux!

I use a spade as my walking stick. Also useful should there be any Coyote activity…

Pictures aren't linking for me. It just has a centered FULL where the pic should be...
