And so it begins So far tempers[hormones] aren't at the boiling point yet. Both Runners are still doing okay together. Opie the Muscovy drake is keeping his distance from Sam the gander. I may have at least through Feb before this start getting out of hand. I am already in my mind working on separating these boys if needed.

Agreed! Tom is letting Chance have his moment in the spotlight for now, but I know it won't be long before the "drake charges" start again. You know the ones, head down, bill open, running as fast as they can

It would appear to be Sandhill cranes. I just never looked it up.

I am still waiting for spring but I won't spoil it by having to break up fights every few minutes. These boys will be in time out. Boy last years Sam and Opie get into some humdingers and Sam always loses because once Opie gets hormonal he doesn't back down and just keeps hammering poor Sam but Sam always starts it.

So cool. These are what our neighbor who lives in Winter haven said they have taken their main areas from and now they walk around in neighborhoods and down road ways. So sad to me that we have done this to so many birds and animals. Then they wonder why bears and other animals are going after humans. We've moved into their territory.

It's got the neck and shape of a crane or heron but I've only ever heard the sound while it's flying. They fly pretty high to so all I can see is a silhouette. The sound is pretty neat though.

Heron's fly with there necks in an S shape, can't tell from your picture to well but the neck looks out.

We have some Sand hill cranes here. Hard to find, though. Never encountered one, sadly.
