I thought I struck gold searching for their book on Amazon. I think it was only $25 for the large fowl and I was about to buy it, then I noticed it was a reprint of the 1915 standards. :he
I'm sure it would be neat just for the nostalgia of it, but not exactly what I was looking for.

So would you say the bantam book was worth the cost?
I had to learn the hard way to not wear a half way decent shirt in the mornings. I'm coming back in the house with poop on me somewhere. On the good days I find it before I leave the house too! :lau

Not sure how many of the breeds you are interested in raising are in the book, but let me take a look through it when I get home. I bought it with breeding OEGBs in mind. So many different beautiful varieties. But I ended up selling them off. The bantam cochin section has been wonderful help to me, and in general, I guess its a decent book. With your interest in genetics, its probably worth the price. I couldn't justify the huge price for the large fowl book. Of course, I could shoot a few pics for you, if there are certain things you'd like to see. :D

I think most folks use the kippenjungle calculators. He now has calculators for ducks, pigeons, quail, etc, etc.

Eggs are getting set today, and I'm pretty darn nervous! If the incubation fails I'll be out a hundred plus bucks in eggs.

It's been longer than planned, so I'll not be using the barnyard eggs. I just do not feel comfortable putting them in there. I am considering just contacting the lady who donated them to me and asking if I could just buy some to fill in any gapes. They are only $4 a dozen, and I already feel bad not using the ones she gave me. I'll just eat what is left over.

Let the nail biting begin!

Hmm, I missed your post this morning.
I actually really like Bantams, but with my experiences so far, I am trying to stay away from them for now. (boy is that hard, 2 free OEGB on CL, 1ea m/f) Between illness, and predators I lost around 15 birds in 2 weeks. It broke my heart, so I'm trying to get large fowl that hopefully will be more hardy, predator savvy, and so on. I will indeed have some more, but it wasn't very long ago, and I am a big ole' tenderfoot...

That being said, I would love to read what your book has on Seramas. I just can't let that breed go. I love my little cheap-o pet quality Seramas! They sleep inside the house and get hand delivered to their run every day and night.
Seller: Now these are not show quality.
Me: Oh don't worry. I'll have no problem showing them off.

I've got a birthday coming next month. Maybe I'll get lucky and find the large fowl book wrapped in some paper. I don't really know what info is in the books, but you have a good point with my genetic interest. That alone would make it worth it's cost.

So what are you setting?? I set some Saxony eggs on Sunday, and some Call duck eggs on Monday. :D
I'll be setting 6 Blue Isbar, 6 Black Australorp, and 8 Wheaten O Shamo with potentially 4 barnyard mixed chickens. I've got to many ducks now as it is to try them yet. Lol, plus if I can manage to be patient :)gig), duck eggs will be free soon. ;)
I would LOVE to hatch some Saxony eggs at some time though. It's one of the breeds I would like to work with down the road some. are you going to be posting anywhere on their progress? I would love to follow along. :)

I was at my wife's job hanging out for a bit today, enjoying the view.

This big fella came and landed on the boat lifts roof, but flew away when I approached for a bigger picture.

Patti, I too actually have a duckling question. One of my younger Runners will sit on her tail and knees with her feet stretched out in front of her. It doesn't happen very often, and she doesn't seem to have any balance issues or even anything else to notice. When she gets up, she walks and runs perfectly. Does that sound like something to be concerned about, or is little Miss just comfy? It's pretty cute to be honest. If I can get a picture of it I will.
Get a pic I see my Runners the youngest doing something similar. I think it’s just comfy.

This happened tonight!

The OShamo should be here in around 12 hours to fill in ther gaps. I went ahead and added two of the Barnyard mixes in there. I don't have the highest hopes for him, but it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong. That's one of those times where you're going to happy to be wrong I suppose.
