Do you have to be NPIP to ship hatching eggs? Or is that only for lice birds?

Yep, you do :) But, on that note, literally no one is checking. That said, I am NPIP because I show, anyway.

Hahah! That’s what I thought. I wonder how you get into that program. Not that I have anything to ship, but it just seems like a nice title for the flock.

It's not hard, though it varies from state to state. My state is super easy. California though I've heard it's ridiculous and there's a fee and a waiting list...kinda stupid for a voluntary program they want people to participate in.

Yeah I kind of wondered about that. I doubt anyone has time to be policing USPS packages for non NPIP eggs.

It sounds to me like California is a difficult state for farming/poultry in general... the weather sounds nice out there but it sounds very limiting otherwise.

These guys are so cool! My husband doesn't get into farming/chicken stuff much, but he's been dying for an Ayam Cemani so I finally bought hatching eggs. Crossing my fingers for at least one or two.
Yes they are. If you are ever looking for more AC eggs the breeder of these lives in Brooksville.
The cockerel is a pain in the butt sometimes, but not bad enough to put him in the soup pot.

I should probably do some research on the breed. Chris wants an Ayam rooster SO bad, but I have terrible luck with roos, and if they're prone to being aggressive buttholes, we might have to go another way. I love my free ranging birds, but if I have a rooster that wants to attack me and our kid left right and sideways, it ruins the whole relaxing farm vibe whenever I'm outside. I don't enjoy having to walk around with a stick and practice my ninja moves.
