I think I've got my first broody duck. I noticed a nest being built, and yesterday found an Ancona girl sitting in it. Well today I found her sitting in it again. Both times were the middle of the day too and that's prime swimming time. I put 6 duck eggs in the nest when she left to sew what she'd do. When I closed the Shack door she was sitting on them. :D

Aww, how old is he? He's so cute!

I was hoping that we'd have a total outside dog, but the breeder introduced me to a group of people that raise their LGDs using the "Farei" method, and part of that is starting them in the house, with you 24/7 for the first 90 days. Apparently that really helps form a bond with you/the family, and the theory is that the dog then cares about what you care about, aka your stock. I'm a part of their group and tons of the members are having a lot of success with it, so we'll see how it goes.

We've been walking him around the property to introduce him to the chickens and goats, and he's so calm. He's interested in them, but not like golden retriever mow them down and flip your lid interested. He's so aloof for a pup. He doesn't chase or get excited, he just lays down (obviously he's leashed) and watches them. It's so neat to watch. We're quite a ways from true guardian dog status, but it's neat to see his temperament starting out.

Apollo had three accidents today inside the house, but all three were more my fault than anything else. I've been worthless today running on no sleep. My husband asked me how I managed when Sheadon was a baby (my husband is his step-dad, and he doesn't have any kids.) I told him I was young and I think I've either forgotten most of those sleepless nights or they didn't affect me like they do now, lol. He told me it's probably for the best that we don't have any babies now, since we can barely handle puppies. 😂
He's just over 1. Even having them outside they will bond with you so much if you spend time with them. Biscuits parents were both raised outside, free to roam the farm, and they love the humans and the chickens so much! If the 3 kids are outside atleast one of the dogs is watching them, and the other one will be in and out between the chickens and kids. But the same as kids, there's not only one way to do it, you find your own rhythm and what works for your house hold.
