What's the atmosphere like at the feed store? (Assumjng you still work there) do you feel safer from germs now?

Well, at least now it's the law here that you have to wear a mask (though some people still think that they're above the law and it doesn't apply to them, sigh) and we've got barriers at the registers and whatnot.

But even though we're having higher case numbers than ever, we're not doing things we did during the last peak, like limiting how many customers can be in the store.

This is Winter. Winter is a naughty duck.

Winter is another case of someone coming into the store and asking me if I can take their duck. On the way home, Winter escaped the box and decided to wander around the back of my car.

So Winter's story is that a man came in probably over a month ago at this point and asked if we knew of anyone who could take two pekin ducks, because winter was coming and he didn't really have any place he could keep them. I sighed and said I could, as usual, lol. But then he hit me with saying he'd have to ask his granddaughter first because she might not want him to give them away.

Not that her not wanting to get rid of the ducks would change the fact that he just told me he didn't have anything he could do with them, but okay.

Didn't hear from him for over a month. The last shift I worked, the phone rings, I answer it, and it's someone asking for me. It's the owner of the ducks. See, his wife and granddaughter had not wanted to get rid of them, so that's why he hadn't gotten back to me.

You'll notice that I only have Winter. That's because a coyote got the other one. So at that point he decided to call and ask if I would take the remaining duck. I told him if he could get the duck to me before the store closed, which at the time was in two hours, I'd take the duck that night.

So he boxed him up and made it to the store before we closed, and now Winter will come join the flock of pekin girls as the second drake.

Winter means an abundance of turnips and turnip greens out of the garden. DH planted way too many. We had turnip green pizza last night. I know that probably sounds disgusting but it soooo good.
I love turnip greens! - My seeds arrived too late, so i could not plant them before we got the first frost. I wonder how dux-eggs from dux, fed with turnip greens taste…
