Hello hello, hope you all have a good Sunday. We had thunderstorms yesterday, I was out gathering food for the rabbits and got utterly soaked!

I had a drake like. I was constantly chasing him off my Muscovy girls, all the while the scovie drakes doing nothing.Sure does make a difference when they get along. I have my Runner drake and his girls separated from My Muscovy right now because he just cannot leave the Muscovy females alone and my Muscovy drake will not lift a wing to stop him. Lazy thing.
Are the fires still going on up there or has the rain helped any to stop them. We are getting a steady rain here where I am in Ohio today and it will rain most of this week which is a blessing to clear out our air. I pray that your fires will all go out soon.Hello hello, hope you all have a good Sunday. We had thunderstorms yesterday, I was out gathering food for the rabbits and got utterly soaked!
I've honestly not being keeping track of them. The one that was close by I think has been taken care of though. No smoke of fire smells in a few days. Are the fires still going on up there or has the rain helped any to stop them. I only have kept track because of the news telling us not to be outdoors if we are old or have asthma and not to mow or fuel our vehicles as we would pollute the air even more. My Mom lived to be 35 days short of 97 and she always said 100 was old so I have a long ways to go to being old, lol.I've honestly not being keeping track of them. Progress!!Today concludes two weeks of living with Junior. (And two weeks of good advice in this forum! Thank you all!)
There was great improvement in physical activity on this very day:
- decided to swim underwater ... fast like a fish, impressive
- was able to run larger distances (+50%) with much shorter required rest inbetween
- one of her eyes is basically entirely OK, the other one still needs to improve somewhat, we were told to do another week of the antibiotic to be extra sure
- good progress on wing feathers, now the tail part is starting to regrow
And also on the behavioral side:
- still tends to be super passive when in the group but starting to be a little more active
- for the first time, after coming into the general area of the group, got up and actively joined them (inserted herself in the middle of others) when they moved a couple of feet away to hunt for slugs
- is hardly pecked at by larger ducks at all and does not cower and freeze if it does happen
So all in all ... this seems like very good progress.
We continue with vitamin-fortified water and food (peas sprinkled with yeast and eggshells as the main course, everything else as a side dish).
It seems that the next and final? step will be to get her to forage n the orchard and use the food/water basins that we set out. Right now she does follow the flock and she does pick at grass and dig a little, but very perfunctorily... As though she is just imitating other ducks and has no idea that this activity has to do with food.
My two that I bought together are thick as glue. You never see one without the other in the pen and the same is with the 4 month old ducklings. Funny how they stick together with their hatch mates.Progress!!
I have a fawn and White Runner who almost all the time doesn't quite know where she is. She usually hangs out on the fringe of the flock and aot of times is by herself. She is 4 yrs old and has done this most of her life. Don't tell the others but she is my fav. maybe because she is a little different.
Well, that definitely makes me feel better! - Confident that you're not attempting to re-grow dinosaurs by crossing turkeys and emus…[...]
If it makes you feel better, she's a bantam, haha! That's one of my Ko Shamo hens. She has taken to following Rex around.
He does still come up to my hip though.
