She is almost 6 weeks and does not actually peep anymore but also does not quack yet. Some say theirs didn't until they were 7 weeks old. July 8th she will be 8 weeks old and I figure if she doesn't quack by then she is part of the Mafia group that I have, lol.
Is the duckling very verbal, does it protest loudly when you pick it up?
The young ladies are more out"spoken" as ducknagers whereas the young men are more quiet and observant.
My observation is that ducklings of heavier breeds start to quax earlier - i had White Layers that started to quax in week three (!), and i had Fawn and White Indian Runners that were still peeping in week eight - i got very nervous, that would have been ten drakes at once, but i was lucky: From one day to the next all ten were quaxing in the morning.

Happy Saturday to Everybody!

Free Sauna outside here in Big Chimney! It is just 25° (77F) with the humidity at 90%. I rained during the whole night, the ground is saturated and now that the sun is peeking through the clouds you can literally see the water evaporating from the ground…
The only upside is that i don't have to water anything.

It is very verbal when I pick it up but so are my Mallards. They have mostly green bills which for me have always turned out to be males. My Swedish's bill has some green on it now when I started out to be black with orangish yellow. They all have an absolute fit when I pick them up but the Swedish will eventually be quiet and let me just pet it. I won't give up hope and thanks for all of your help, I deeply appreciate it.

My one Fawn and White Runner as a duckling started a quiet quack at 2 weeks!!! I thought for sure it was a boy. The other one did not start until about 5 to 6 weeks and then started sounding just like the first one. Now they both can quack their heads off. First time I have ever picked out 2 females, in the past I have always gotten a Hen and Drake.

If you can show us a video of the duckling while you hold it and its peeping, i may be able tell you the gender… - And then maybe not, because its a call duck…

Thank you for offering but I don't know how to do video's. In the past Miss Lydia has been my Godsend for sharing anything on here. I have a mental block when it comes to technology and am Blessed to be able to do this. It's really old age but I would rather call it a mental block, lol.

There are, however differences in the details: Sometimes, people who are allergic against chicken-eggs don't feel any symptoms after eating duck- (or other) eggs. That might also be a placebo effect…
I can assure you it isn't a placebo effect for me. I'd completely forgotten that the eggs I had eaten were from chikins until the next day when I had to think back to what could have caused my explosive discharge of liquid fertilizer.

Eggs are eggs are eggs! - There is no such thing as a "duck-egg taste". The taste of the eggs heavily depends on what the birds (or reptiles) have eaten while they produced the eggs. Would you feed your ducks only with fish, there is a good chance that their eggs have a fishy smell.
The food that is fed to the chickens in commercial egg-farms is specially designed to keep the taste of the supermarket eggs as bland as possible, so that no customer is "offended" by a too "eggy" taste. Feed Kale/Cabbage/Mustard leafs, just something from the brassica family to your ducks and you will notice that the yolk becomes more orange and the eggs will taste "eggier". Red Cabbage works best, it makes the legs and bills of my ducks shine bright orange!

We looked into this with my sensitvies, the one difference we saw was no vitamin c in Suck eggs. Am sure theres other slight differences but that was the obvious

Like me, when i have to pass an exam: I know everything, have done it 100-times but when the inspector asks me i draw a blank. Fortunately i was able to have this declared as a medical issue, so i can keep my job without having to pass our internal trainings.

Well, somebody was complaining about his poor soil on the Canadian shield…
There you have the solution! Distribution method inclusive…
