How did you survive prying momma duck away from the nest?
Hopefully they survive. I'll be keeping or selling some of the females, and males will be rehomed depending on colour.
As for getting around Momma, that was easy! I waited for her to go eat! She's also fairly good and only takes off one layer of skin if I reach in.
The one in my new avatar is really interesting. Love those markings! Haven't gotten a chance to really look at them all yet, though.
@WannaBeHillBilly Just peeked in the nesting box when Mom decided she wanted to partake in the afternoon corn, and two more babies.
I also managed to count how many eggs are left to hatch: 11. I believe *someone* added eggs to this nest! Probably the other chocolate hen, who was co-nesting for a bit then decided it was more fun to hang out with the boys! >.<
I have no idea what to do if all of them hatch! 24 babies?!?

Now that begins to make sense! - Some time ago if found my Buff Orpington drake Erpelchen beaten up pretty bad, ruffled up plumage, missing feathers, swollen eyes, the whole package…
I had no clue what happened, but after looking into the table in your article, there are only two ways how this duckling could have been created: Erpelchen must have mated with one of the Black Swedish ducks - and got caught in the act by Ralphie Dux, the Black Swedish drake... ☠
Ralphie is twice the size of Erpelchen.
