my little 12 week old standard pekin drake doesn’t have a curl … yet… might it still appear?
I don’t know I really thought by 12 weeks a drake would have the curl tail feather. I also heard that some never get it?

This year's two drakes don't have theirs either and they're about that age.

Mine drakes were always older than 12 weeks. Pekins seem too busy eatting their weight per minute than to grow in their curls on time

Careful with fire

1. At least we here in WV have been way too dry for the last three months, which has the advantage that i don't have to mow the grass around the house continuously, but: FIRE HAZARD
2. You need a good torch with a large and hot flame to make sure that every bug is burned when trying to leave the hole in the ground. And then there's the weird nest that has a second entrance hole and…

A pressurized sprayer with a long nozzle and a gallon of permethrin mix, set up so that the entrance to the nest is continuously sprayed without you standing close by does the job.

safety hazard in the places i’ve had nests fire world be too dangerous. When I had a nest in an old wood pile, and when I saw the opening where they were entering an exiting, I just put a tablespoon of sevin dust right at the opening. They landed in it and carried it inside. Problem solved, but the nest in my greenhouse all involved in a tub full of burlap sacks, I think if I had a beekeeper suit, I probably could’ve got that out myself, but I wouldn’t do it without one

I have heart that the yellow jackets can sting through these white beekeeper suits. Hornets definitely can!
For the bees i only have a hat with a veil. I dress up in a thick work jeans with socks and rubber boots, a sweatshirt with a hoodie and then the veiled hat on top of the hoodie. That should even protect against the mosquitos from Texas (aka Vampire Humming birb ), but it is hot...

None of my drakes have drake feather at the moment! - They loose those outside the mating season.

Are Pekin Duck really worse than Blanca Ducks? - She's eating her own weight once every six hours…

i have 2 white layers who are 8 years old, and one pekin who is 6 ,( she’s big and does eat alot her name is Chubbs)
my 2 new little pekins are “standard” pekins , they are small , only 4 - 5 pounds

Last night, just past 10:30, as I was about to go to bed, I got an incoming text. Turned out to be someone replying to one of my sales ads online. BUT, this girl was trying to GIVE me her duck! She sounded desperate too, even offered to pay me.

I could tell she was young, and I felt really bad for the duck. She has it inside her apartment, and alone.

Not wanting to be just as irresponsible since I'm over-crowded this year with not being able to free range them (instead of a muddy field my yard is this year a lush jungle of weeds taller than me!), I thanked her and said no.

Been thinking about it and I really don't know if I should have accepted for the sake of the duck and then tried to rehome it, but my feed bills are already through the roof, ducks are crowded, I have no idea what the health of this bird is, and honestly I'm afraid it might be someone trying to scam me and get my address.

ugh! my six-year-old Pekin named Chubbs I was just talking about hurt her right leg and she’s limping this morning. I gave her B complex brought her inside put her in my bathtub full of warm water letting her just float around in there to rest. I wonder how long I can leave her in there? One hour? Two hours? How long is too long for an adult duck to just float in a bathtub? I toss some mealworms in there, but she hasn’t eaten them.

Where I live the ASPCA/dog pound takes farm animals is that available for your area? you could tell her to take her duck there and then someone can adopt it who really wants a new duck?
