I hillbillied Mr. Heater, the Diesel Weasel:
On Tuesday morning the Swiss-Chard plants on the patio showed some signs of frost damage, so the electric space heater was not enough to keep the patio above freezing.
For the last three nights i had Mr. Heater on the patio, controlled by a simple timer, that turns it on for 15 minutes every two hours.
My plants have survived the bitter cold night from Wednesday to Thursday when we had -22°(7.6F).

I have ordered a programmable Plug-In Thermostat that can be programmed to turn on an outlet when the ambient temperature falls below a minimum temperature and turn the outlet off when the ambient temperature exceeds a maximum value.

With that setup Mr. Heater should easily be able to keep the temperature on my patio high enough for seedlings to grow, even if it is below freezing outside.
As soon as i have removed all »duck-leftovers« from summer and autumn the growing season will start here!

Usually, when it is really nasty outside i am wearing my overall which has a pocket over my chest and i put the phone in there. It is more likely that i end up on my butt than on my chest...
The last two times I fell flat on my face but thanks God It was in soft grassy earth. It was kind of nice actually I just stayed there rolled over and looked at the sky for a while.
