Trip to feed store leads to political arguement!

GM could have filed bankruptcy and reorganized as allowed by law. It wasn't as if one morning everyone would wake up and GM would be no more. They would have had to streamline, cut costs, and take steps that every other business in this country does when they hit hard times. Instead they went with the government assisted bailout that benefited the unions over stockholders. I have a problem with that.

As mentioned, Ford took a loan that is not yet due to try to build vehicles that few can afford without more government subsidies and even fewer wish to own.

What business could not stay open for a while longer if they were given a huge loan while having bad credit and bad history? I think it is a bit premature to celebrate GM's success and quite frankly no assembly line job that anyone within a week could master is worth what they pay. Take a look at the costs to manufacture a car broken down to an hourly rate for labor and you will see that GM is one of the highest. If you want GM to succeed start paying people what the market will support and you will see auto prices go lower. This is exactly what Toyota did to get a market share in the US years ago, they did not get a bailout.

I added no judgement either way. I just pointed out that the truth was contrary to one posters opinion.
That can create many a posts.

WOW YOU ARE SO WRONG~~!!!!! For you information I used to work in the tire industry and Firestone and Bridgestone are one in the same! Bridgestone is not a Japanese company! Years ago there were only 4 companies that actually manufactured Tires. FIRESTONE/BRIDGESTONE, GOODYEAR, COOPER AND I can't remember the last one but I think it is BF Goodrich. During the Bush years, Bush offered a tax break to companies who out sourced their manufacturing. Shutting down Dayton Ohio Firestone Bridgestone plant which is were my company received most of their tires from. They moved manufacturing to Japan, and Indonesia. The company I worked for started getting their tires from Tn. who got them shipped in from the other countries! There was no big buy out of Firestone/Bridgestone! It was a tax break that Bush put into action that Obama has tried and tried to get over turned since he has been in office! Trying to force manufacturing back to AMERICA! So get on your congressman and tell him to pass the rise in tariff taxes!

Now as far as Chrysler goes they issued a statement the other day that they are not moving to China and their plants in OHIO are now looking to hire more employees! And that information was lie and guess who's campaign that came out of, Romney's!

Interesting reading. Unfortunately, when things go wrong, people look for someone to blame. I wish you could point to that particular law that "Bush offered a tax break to companies who out sourced their manufacturing." I doubt you will find it.

Jeep manufacturing is going overseas, probably to both Italy and China. It is only a matter of time until all Chrysler products will be made outside the US.

There was a very misleading advertisement to this effect that was refuted by Jeep. I believe their Toledo Oh plant is adding 1100 jobs

The China connection came from a piece in Bloomberg News that stated that they will be opening a plant in China. (New manuf. not moved manuf.) -- It is the law in China that companies must hire Chinese workers and Partner with Chinese companies.

I think that as citizens - regardless of which party - we need to hold our politicians to telling the truth to the American People.

ETA - Just to add--- the entire rust-belt has been hit very hard in the last decades...the auto industry reach goes far beyond the automakers with a huge ripple effect thoughout the entire mid-west and great lakes region.
