We processed for the first time!

It was not as bad as I thought. The end result was a 4lb 8oz beautiful chicken. The thing that was hard was cutting the vein in the neck. I was surprised at how much pressure needs to be applied. Brand new knives from MM too.

    Too much outside time?

My seven week old girls love spending time in their new yard. The are out there for long periods of time weather permitting. Is there such a thing as too much time outside at that age? They have plenty of shade, food, water, and bugs to keep them busy. They just love it out there. My five...

This is Stripes. She/he is 6 weeks old, and one of my very favorite chicks. I have noticed her tail feathers are not as round as the other girls and she is a little lighter in color. She does have the dark legs, and a small comb though. So, she has me stumped. Any guesses? I think she...

    Chick starter question

Is there any harm in keeping some of my chicks on starter until 8 weeks? I have quite a bit left, and by the time it's gone the chicks will be 6 - 8 weeks old. The bag says up until 6 weeks, then switch to grower so I don't want to give them something that could wack out my so far healthy girls.

Instead of building a run attached to our coop, we want use the Perma Net in a wide circle around the coop. Inside the fence there are shade trees, and sunny spots and covered areas. Our coop is raised off the ground about 2 feet, built of plywood, and reinforced with welded wire. It would...
