I am having a problem with one of my chickens cracking eggs and then eating the insides I assume ( the nesting material is always wet, with the cracked shell remaining) What can i do to stop this behavior ? I need this to stop because I believe this is causing my other chicks to keep from laying...
At what degree approx. do eggs freeze? All my girls usually are done laying by 12 noon but some lay at the break of dawn. Is it ok to leave them until i gather them all or should i get them as soon as they're layed to keep them from freezing? Curious, as the temps have been in the single digits...
Its been pretty cold here the last few days (lows in the single digits) I was wondering for the chicks well being would it be better to leave them in the coop shut up for warmth or leave the pop door open to the cold and let them come and go out as they please. I,m worried about frostbite on...
This is our 1st winter season with our chicks.Does their metabalism slow down? The reason being is that our young ladies seem to be eating less every since the snow storm and cold snap that has occurred here in the mid-atlantic over the weekend.
I'm having a problem peeling them after their done boiling, very difficult and its tearing them up. I thought fresh eggs didn't do this. Any suggestions? Who knows, i might lose customers if this continues.
Our daughter went out yesterday evening and there it was, under the coop.Overwelmed with joy, after 17 weeks building the coop, the run, cleaning and raking, good things are finally happening and we hope it continues. Will they eventually use the nest boxes or is there a secret on how to get them...
Has anybody ever used an old tire and fill it up with sand for a dust bath station in their run? I am purchasing new tires and thought i might give this a try and see how it works. Think it will ?
I was wondering when I should let my 14 week old chics have access to the boxes in order to get ready for laying.Right now i have them blocked off to keep them from maybe roosting or something else. Any suggestions would be fine. Thanks.
My roosts are at 30" and 44"respectivly in a ladder configuration. My question is this : How far below the roost should this be located and should it be under both or just the lowest one ? Any advice will be very appreciated. Thanks
I have noticed in somewhat hot and humid weather it looks like they are doing this. Or is this their way of panting and cooling themselves down? Just curious.
I know these critters are scavengers but do they bother or feast on chickens if given the opportunity ? I have seen one floating around the house lately.
Would this size fencing be ok for the bottom 2ft of the run. This hardware cloth stuff is so expensive so i was wondering if it would do? Our coop is not far from the house and as far as predators their are a few but we have a dog and cat that patrol the area . Any info would be appreciated...
Is it easier on everything if the inside of the coop is finished with some type of wall paneling ? I'm trying to decide if this would make everything easier to clean or not before I decide what I want to do for the interior. Any advice ?
Has anyone ever used landscape post for supporting the fence for the run? They seem to be a little cheaper than 4x4 posts.Just trying to save $ wherever i can.
