Mixed breeds. My cochin boys with my girls. The most interesting chicks came from my bantam columbian rock hen.

I am pretty sure they use the term straight run a an excuse to dump as many roos as humanly possible. For obvious reasons people don't want as many roos as hens so they...
I've been a bit busy here but my hatch went alright, though the fertility was not astounding. Most of the blue and green eggs were infertile so no chicks from Annabelle. :( Overall I had 14 fertile eggs and 12 hatched. I also had 2 little zebra finches hatch too! The finches were a surprise. i'd...
Well Annabelle took a turn for the worse over the course of the night and we lost her a short bit ago. It was all very sudden and unexpected. She was a good bird. I really hope those eggs of hers are fertile and I can get them to hatch. It would be a small blessing if I could at least have some...
We gave her a soak and used some preparation H on the tissue, but it seems like a real catch 22. She cannot pass the large egg because of the massive prolapse, and I can't really get the tissue back in with the egg in the way. It is a tennis ball sized bulge. I gave her some calcium and have her...
oh yes. The hatching addiction is a very real thing. I hatched for a year straight! The only way I was even able to keep myself in check over the last year was to forsake BYC until I was in a position where it wouldn't be really foolish to keep hatching. As soon as I saw chick pics again I...
The good news is the farm innovators is working without issue. I desperately hope I can hatch those 4 eggs from my olive egger Annabelle because of the bad news.... She is in serious trouble. When I let them out for the day she had a weird waddle so I scooped her up and he has a really severe...
Ugh, I think the heating element on the bator is messing up or something. No matter how much I turn the thing I can't get it up past 85°!!! I take back every recommendation for the Brinea Octagon 20 I have ever made. The first one I had that did this was used so I figured "Oh well, it was old"...
My hatch is already off to a terrible start! I slowly tweaked my incubator to get it to just the right temp and it was doing good.... then last night it rained and now I can't get this stupid thing right!!! I can't get my temp out of the 80's and my freaking humidity is staying in the sixties...
I finally got the bator running! I have 20 eggs in right now, all mixes of the cochin boys and different girls. I may throw a few more in tomorrow if they lay any. They decided they were too busy today. I just hope I'm not too rusty and I get a good hatch in 21 days!
I think one factor will definitely be how much and well they were handled as babies. All of my goats have always had heavy human interaction and are very tame.
