I had a hen setting on 12 eggs and only 2 hatched. I have a second hen setting and even a third hen setting. I candled the eggs and it looks like the second hen might hatch out 4...not really sure yet. What can I do to increase fertility? These hens and the roo are all a year old. Just...
The Hawks that got my hens did not carry the bodies off. They killed them right there in the yard and ate them where they killed them. The rest of the chickens were traumatized watching all that. I caught both hawks while they were eating. One of the hawks was a Red Tail Hawk and the other...
Hey Beekissed!
I'm new to Cochins myself but I actually happen to have a flock just like your roo and I thinhk he is a Silver Laced Roo. My Silver Laced Roos have that same saddle pattern but look at the feathers on his chest....so my vote is Silver Laced. As far as quality...I'd love to...
Thank you for the pointers and I'll probably take you up on that Bo. I'm a newbie at this and would love to learn more. Right now they are only a couple weeks old so I'll give them a little more time and get some good pictures of them.
Thank you!

I have a batch of silver laced cochin chicks I got and they have feathers coming in on their hocks (not sure what else to call it). Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
Thanks ahead of time!

I'm not having any luck finding LF Silver Laced Cochins. Does anyone know Which hatchery would be the best to order from/has the best stock? I've heard that Cackle has good stock and Welp.
Thanks!

All of these problems that Dutchbunny is having is making me a little scared to even go to Carolina ChickenStock this weekend.
What do y'all suggest about looking for birds to add to a flock at an event like this? Would you suggest not buying anything at all? What precautions should I take...
Is anyone going to the Chicken Stock this weekend in Lincolnton? Has anyone been before and wouldyou suggest going? Hopefully someone can tell me if this is a good place to go look for chickens. Thanks ahead of time!
Hello everyone...not sure I'm doing this right so I guess I'll see after I hit submit.
I'm in the Upstate of SC and I joined BYC to look for a Silver Laced Cochin Rooster. Just lost mine last week and I had no idea they would be so hard to find. I'm learning tons of stuff on this site...so...
