So my production red hasn't laid a normal egg in about a week-all thin shell or hardly any shell. They are on layer feed and I put out oyster shell too. Really could use some help! What I've read is that means she needs more calcium but not sure how to supply it. The other hen i have (wyndotte)...
2 times in the past 5 days when I go out in the am
to clean the coop I've found a thin unformed egg in w the poop under the roost. this is from the same chicken that I had thr happen w about 6 wks ago. gettin a little worried since it's happened so frequently the last wk. help?!
hey y'all! we finally got another laying hen that's been doing great! she is a Wyandotte.
I had a quick ? for the experts...this morning mr library found 2 eggs in the run (actually in the part where it is under the coop and there is a bar the hens like to roost on). one egg was busted and the...
Since we had to re-home our rooster (apparently he's happy as a clam & they are going to breed him) our hen has been very noisy. I am wondering if she is lonely? I am getting an orp from tnchicken in a few wks but if anybody close to Knox has a laying hen that needs a new home let me know!
Ah! My luck. Mr library is glad he was right :p
I'll be in co during the picnic but maybe we can meet 1/2 way somewhere before then? I did want a hen close to laying or already laying.... Preferably a colored egg layer :)
yes I'm all new to chickens so def don't know all their sounds :)

Nice set up peach!!
So other than waiting to see if she lays, how can I tell if my EE is/isn't a roo? BAIRO-I know you said we could work it out if she was. The reason I am curious is bc I heard some noises that sounded an awful lot like crowing coming from the run this morning  but...
no egg again today...?
looks like they are eating/pooping normal.
stang-my dad uses those for his hunting
dogs & I am def not opposed to trying to train my dog w it. I have even tried giving him his own treats & he still is more interested in what they get (even tho he wouldn't eat it anyway)!
I wish I had built our coop/run bigger! I really want to add more chickens :) i think we can easily make the run longer and the coop is big enough for 4-6 birds. I really wanted to get a silkie at the Newport show but needed a hen. Anybody?
Stang-the frizzle is adorable. Too bad no Roos since I...
That sounds perfect tennesseeckn! Just let me know when she's ready :) i wasn't sure how long they needed to be under heat etc.
Good to know re: sand!
blocking the nest box worked perfect last night!
Amen thanks for the thorough explanation!! I am only using pine shavings right now & no poop deck! I wish I had thought of that when we were building the coop! I guess you can find sweetpdz @ the co-op?
Bairo thanks for explaining the difference bw the two. Are you using s really gritty sand...
bummed I will miss the gathering I'll be out in Colorado having fun :)
Tennesseeckn-I'd love to be a home for your orp!! Could I get her in a few wks?
Arghh! Now I want a lav orp too! Thx for the offer barnqueen! Maybe when I get a bigger coop? (uh oh its already starting!!)...
