With temps warming up, my chicks will be 3 weeks old tomorrow and are going into the outside brooder tomorrow. Looks like no lower than 52 for a week straight, highs in upper 70s. Perfect weather

I usually put my incubator hatched chicks out with mama heating pad after the first week but this will be my first time having chick I didn’t hatch so I will keep them in longer to watch them closely. With temps warming up, my chicks will be 3 weeks old tomorrow and are going into the outside brooder tomorrow. Keep us updated on what cackle says about them feathering In smooth.I just looked at their website, and it says they guarantee the chicks to be the breed represented. I guess I need to contact them and see if I can get some replacement chicks for the ones that have the smooth feathering. The staff were courteous and helpful when I went to pick up my chicks- I don't feel negatively about the hatchery; I just think I got some accidentally mixed chicks. In the pictures below, you can see this deceased chick has the black skin and beak, and 5 toes, feathered legs like a silkie, but the wing feathers are coming in smooth. Both my champagne colored silkies and several of my white silkies are developing this way, while the others have the silky-typical feathers.

Good to know thanks! I’m not new to chickens ( I’ve had them for 25 years) but new to Silkies.Buff silkies are incredibly hard to get the melanistic skin and even from show stock it's not unheard of to have much lighter skin than the other colors.
