Cat Owners: What's your favorite Kitty Litter?

I have been using Tidy Cats mostly, clumping litter. Its pretty good, but still the litter boxes smell!

No matter how many times we scoop and clean them out!
I used to use the pine pellets, but had one of my cats not like them, and she used the floor instead, so put a stop to that one. When you have lots of cats, it can get real expensive, and fast. Funny thing is, most of them go outside during the day, but prefer to come inside and use the litter boxes.

Moth balls. I used those for a while but didn't know if the hurt the soil. The cats hated them and stayed away. Then one winter I put chicken wire down with a little mulch on top and let the plants grow through it. That stops them

Liberal sprinkling of cayenne red pepper keeps the cats (and squirrels) out of our flower beds.

I use the clumping Tidy Cat litter and clean out the clumps every day for a few reasons. It may or may not be the best odor control but it clumps great and I want to know if the girls are eliminating consistently (both urine and feces). This is so I can see if there are any changes in their elimination which can indicate something is wrong. My 13 year old kitties are strictly indoors, quite spoiled and well loved

. Kidney disease is common in older cats (urinary problems common at all ages!) and cats tend to hide their illness until it becomes overwhelming and they are in big trouble. Having a background in veterinary medicine and behavior its another way to help my pets stay in good health.

I use the lemongrass sented one from Costco. I love it! And this thread reminded me that I need to clean out the litter box... Off I go!

I have to clean mine too, they are loooong overdue for an overhaul.

Going to try out one of the suggested litters this weekend. Still haven't decided which one I want to try first though.

Nana thanks for the cayenne pepper tip. Now I've got several good things to try to keep those yucky kitties out of the gardens.

They are both inside curled up on the couch when they should be outdoors so they don't meow and follow me around the house wanting out after dark when they have to stay in.

Just a quick FYI.

It isn't always the litter that is the problem. What you put into your cat affects what comes out. We have to feed ours a moderately expensive food or you get chased out of the room the box is in. As soon as we upped the quality of food, the smell got better.

We use Tidy cat for multiple cats. Hubs is supposed to scoop it every other day...but doesn't.
