Chickens under 2 months dropping like flys,no noticeable symptoms

It was fascinating to me that after all the losses, none really exhibited many of the symptoms associated with coccidiosis.
That's why I'm curious what species caused the problem.
Sometimes it is difficult to notice symptoms when they are in large groups, in MY experience. Surprising to me that NO bloody poos presented ever!!

I guess maybe large groups, even with "plenty" of room... MIGHT benefit from being on medicated starter.

I'm proud of the OP... both for sharing this difficult experience so we can all learn... but also for not playing the blame game against the breeder :highfive: or jumping to conclusions... Still, don't think I would order from them due to their lack of concern.

Honestly... if it were me... I might use both the Corid and the Sulfa drug... though it may have already almost killed itself out. I ouldn;t presume just because it was deadly that it is already amprolium resistant, BUT... having lost so many already, I would be on a hair trigger most likely. I would also be sure and let the vet know that if something is over the counter I rather have them give me that option than trying to sell their product at a mark up... Though I guess that's partly on me to do my homework, and I still buy from the vet out of convenience or desire to keep my business "with" them... for some things.

The cocci... verses coccidia term mentioned earlier... often in my mind... (me) originating in California's central San Joaquin valley... many people fear getting "cocci", and my husband is just sure that's what would have killed him if we didn't move to a better air quality location. It is definitely a different condition and the term cocci is used even in medical realms... I guess just like so many other things in this English language... it MUST be taken in context. When people are talking about chicks pooping blood... it's pretty clear which they are referring to. But discussing a necropsy I would think distinction is highly important! And it's awesome that the peeps here are intelligent and educated well enough to know there is a difference... I was gonna use some links... but wow, there's a lot.. so I won't add that confusion here but appreciate that it was brought up. :thumbsup

VERY tough learning situation. :hugs
