Oh Jeana your babies are beautiful!
I just got mine 2 days ago and 3 are Buff Orpingtons. I started with 4 but one didn't make it. I also have 3 Easter Eggers and 3 Golden Sex Links. Being a first time chicken-mom I'll be holding my breath until they all grow up. I currently have them in my basement in a 100 gallon water trough that seems to be working really well. I've already had one with pasty butt and thanks to all the informative posts it no longer appears to be an issue. Yay!

Thank you! They seemed to grow up so fast! They are still friendly and love for me to visit the coop and run but they don't like to be snuggled so much anymore. Not to mention they always seem to have poop on their feet out there....lol

Take a lawn chair out there in the run (if it's big enough) and a towel to put over your lap. You'd be amazed at how quickly your BO's will hop right up and have a seat in your lap! I have a pasture for my birds; I go out every week and sit in the sunshine with a towel on my lap and end up with both BO's and several of the others clamoring for "lap time." It's so sweet!

That's what I've been doing. By just sitting with the birds, you can really see their personalities. As a new chicken owner, I'm really enjoying them.

Even my aloof and mean-ish EE roo has taken a shining to wanting lap-time with Mama recently. He actually let me pet his keel the other day without trying to eat my hand! ;)

Mine like to be petted but not so much being picked up. But my top roo will sleep in my lap if I do pick him up.

I love hearing my neighbors rooster each and every morning! I also hear him proudly announcing the laying of an egg by one of his personal hens. I will be getting a new flock for my new hen house in a few weeks. We need to first trench for the fence so my Jack Russel mix will not be able to even get near our precious little ones. I will be shopping for the toughest chicken wire made too. She will not be having chicken for lunch ever again! We love her and now have learned just how determined she can be; so we can work with that new information. "NO Chickens!! No Chickens" is the new mantra in our house.
