When is this book of yours coming out, Shad?!!! I have questions forming but I don't know enough to formulate them properly. What you are talking about is population control, yes? So a hen takes all these various things into consideration before deciding to sit & basically controls both her fertility & her population.
I don't know Ribh. I had planned for this year but things are very uncertain here and I need to be able to concentrate on the book without all the other crap. Excuses I know, but some stuff I can do in a fairly mindless fashion like study or work, but the book and a couple of other things just don't move forward unless I have head space for want of a better description.

:hugs I understand. Writing requires a certain head space & few distractions. Hard to come by @present.

It’s one of my favourite movies. I have a very large, eclectic selection of favourite movies, from Pulp Fiction, Dogma to Aliens, to Dave. It doesn’t matter what genre it is, if it’s well done and has depth, I will like it. I like a lot of the Pixar kids’ movies for the same reason. (I should be writing this on @drumstick diva ’s thread!)
You should be.

I was just taking a picture of Mr. Bunny in the run when I caught her in the background. I didn't realize she was following him at first.

Lilly can look really mean. I love when she shoots the others that face and they just back down. She can freeze Aurora with just a look. I have watched her hold Aurora in place for minutes just by staring at her.

I was on the receiving end of a glare from janet a few nights ago after I lifted Peggy from the nest to put her in the henhouse for roosting. Janet's tiny but she still stopped me in my tracks for a moment.

Unfortunately as with all creatures that get exploited by humans, including other humans, one of the steps that help make such exploitation acceptable is the dehumanizing of that creature.
If for example the chicken was perceived to have a similar emotional response to humans then some people at least would no longer be comfortable with how the chicken gets treated. While they are stupid prey creatures the exploitation is easier for us to deal with.
This is something I try to convince others about all the time. People will only stand for them to be treated as badly as they are so long as the perception is that they are stupid animals that are only here for our benefit. As such they are not entitled to any protection unlike cats and dogs.

I do hope that the proliferation of back yard chicken keeping can cause people to see them differently. Until then it will be very difficult to improve their lives.

I get that. Lilly glares at me. It is intimidating. There is an authority to them.

You’re welcome. And it’s not about being picky or mean, it’s about giving people ideas to help them grow and flourish. The song sounds finished so I know it’s difficult to go back and change something when you’ve moved on from it, but maybe it’s an idea that can be used for the next song. You grow and learn from each one!
I appreciate your input :hugs

Brave Squirrel

The squirrel was back today. He got to the feeder while Lilly was discussing under the coop right behind Hattie in the picture. Rather than disrupt her bath she dispatched Hattie. Hattie was just turning around in this photo. She ran over and chased the squirrel away.

This squirrel thinks it's smart. It better be careful.
