…another tornado warning! Got the chickies and horses inside so all good. For the moment.

Today I dosed the wee little man for his lice, I think I got more of the Selamectin on me than him tho! I will be well wormed 😁.

Then I gave him a hair cut! Holy moly does he have a lot of feathers! I will have to take more off but for now he can see a bit better! I sure got my exercise today trying to catch him. But with the sky threatening to storm I had no choice but to catch him any way I could.

He is now chillaxing in his crate with his fan blowing in his lofty locks 💕

I cannot wait to get him settled with the gals and digging around the barn ❤️

I promise you all it is not just for vanity's sake that I prefer to keep my yard not to overgrown. It is the snakes. I'm not just dealing with copperheads. If it were just copperheads, while I don't want bitten it most likely would not be the end of the world. We also have Rattlesnakes, both Timber and Eastern Diamondbacks. I have been fortunate enough so far to not have one in my yard....yet. Half a mile up the road, they have killed 2 this season alone. Big ones at that. Of course if I ever do run across a rattler the bite will not kill me, I'll drop dead of a heart attack. I do NOT do snakes.
The chuckle is for the ‘not dying of the snake bite’ comment 😁

I am very bad for poking things and inspecting them so it’s a good thing rattlers in our area are threatened and not numerous. Snakes and bugs don’t scare me - maybe they should haha!

You be very careful I would not want you in any danger!

Yards and lawns and chickens: why mow? Is there a good reason other than people-oriented and social pressure? The Buckeyes love eating seed heads as each species matures. I love watching them pick and sort what they choose to eat. They don't generally eat long pieces of grass, they nip off the ends if they do take grass, and discard long pieces. They really want the grass seeds instead. I'm amazed they really love to eat dock leaves right now (the seed stalks are still green). They have demolished the dandelion leaves for the most part. So I asked DH not to mow their yard area yet, not until the late Fall when they move to their Winter quarters.
I've had similar thoughts re: my jungle

So pretty!
And your grass looks like mine after I have mowed - I believe in mowing high because it is better for other species of plants (aka weeds which I encourage) and for insects. It stresses the grass less too.
Now you know you can celebrate your grass!
Oh and grass? Mine is all going yellow in the drought!
After being told long grass can tangle up in the crop I mowed it all short in the hen run 😟

It was too bad really because the gals loved hiding in it, but it worries me too much.

Now they play jungle fowl in the overgrown Luna Hibiscus and kiwi vines, which is great because they have been eating the pests on the underside of the leaves of the hibiscus 💕

Oh good, there’s so much he needs to adjust to now. Glad you checked it and can leave it alone for now!
I tried to cut it off but the scissors wouldn’t cut it off.

Maybe snips will work better… but will give him time to settle before trying again.

I worry about that too - but when I watch them they rarely eat a long piece. They have a sort of twisting action that snaps little pieces off.
At this stage I would be more worried about mowing and leaving long pieces for them to pick up.
