Dark and stormy here. The ladies went to roost early! Now if Widget would just stop being broody... I call her Broody Butt. It's her 4th time since May, I think. Save it for next spring, ok? I will give you eggs to sit on then.
Widget desperately wants to be a mommy, that’s all.

Sounds like Rosie is going to have an awesome year! Glad dog is getting moved and careful supervision in the meantime. Glad you had a good cry (and were able to say goodbye). Branch is a wonderful therapy bird. Yay for the broodies done, and for some good bathing. Is that Evil Bat, Mama sitting on the nest under the house? Praying Grandma's appointment brings answers. :hugs

Oh I forgot about the bat-crap-crazy Mama! How are her eggs?

Got home from work and took the pups out. About half the chooks are outside. Impossible to watch all the pups at once. Taking a break under the big live oak and Navi comes walking up with a big brown egg. Probably from the naked neck hen, it's huge. I don't know how she got it in her mouth but she delivers it to me. After I promise a treat she puts the egg in my hand. Smart girl. 😊she's also one of Anna's favorite dogs ❤
Awesome retriever 😁

I would say build it and they will come but our coop is not even finished yet! So apparently all you have to do is think about wanting chickens and they come.
You have a few suspected boys there, one of the Marans with the pink comb already is definitely a boy. Color at under 2 weeks, dead give-a-way. He will have the beginning of wattles in the next week. Now if you keep a few boys, and marans make wonderful boys, and are gorgeous to boot if you have broodies then let us talk about chicken math. I suspect you will have broodies, those colored eggers have Marans behind them, broody broody broody. I started with 1 lone stray hen, the ole bat. She alone has made it her mission to populate the world with chicks. I think we are a week in on her 4 eggs. I really cannot remember when I set her, she may be a few days farther along. I need to go back on here to see when I did set her. I admit to being slightly frustrated when mom insisted on giving her the Butter eggs. I'm so thankful now that we did. I tried all last year with no success to hatch a Butter chick with feathered feet. I finally got one this year with cricket and while she was not yellow, I had my feathered feet Butter baby. Ok, need to quit going there as I'm still very easy to get angry over the whole dog situation. I will say he told me over the phone when he came in Monday night he would make it right with me. Ezzie, Granny and Cricket were loved pets, there really is no way to make it truly right.

Thank you! They are adorable though 13 is a lot at once. I started this adventure wanting 4 chickens to learn and see how it went. A sensible measured approach right?

This isn't what happened and I blame Alchemist Farms. They had a 10 surprise chick sale and sent me three extras to boot. So here I am blameless (yeah right!) with 13. :idunno
I want 2 or 3 silkies as pets…. Hmmmm something went wrong with that plan here also haha! Cheaper by the dozen!

I actually do want two Roos. Actually, truth be told any boys are welcome to stay as long as long as they can be gentleman. I would like free range them once they are full grown so roos are essential to my plans. A BCM roo would be my first choice to keep for breeding. That said any boys I keep are going to have settle after adolescence and be gentleman.

On the other note there is no way to make up for a loss like that :( I am glad they are to try and aren’t remorseless hopefully they will do better going forward.
