I’m getting different options from everyone. Family said “don’t spend the money, it’s four times what you bought her for!”
Others say “she’s family too and do all you can do to save her !”
I’m still waiting on the veterinarian in Colorado to tell me that he can do it or not. His hesitation makes me think he’s not interested. I will keep you all informed
Not interested? Find another vet that cares. I hope you can save this beautiful creature

The issue is that I am not set up for ducks, I only have the small hen house and I don’t think they will nest in the bottom nest boxes at night.

And then getting water everywhere as I am told they need water to eat - ??
That is correct. I cautioned Lety on getting ducks but they were too cute. She finally got tired of cleaning after them and gave them to a family that already had ducks and a pond.

That’s very insightful and thank you for your patient opinion. You have no idea how much I appreciate your input. The Colorado veterinarian (I wont name) said he wouldn’t be able to come to California for one horse patient, and that his practice is quite full of patients who have his attention already. (I did plead with him for his assistance) now I’m texting back to my veterinarian about the situation. I have NOT decided yet what I will do. And Chaco’s comfort is very much a factor in my decision. This is hard for me! :(

Has she eaten a little today ?
Yes. She had a little bit of starter (22% protein) mash, a little bit of chopped beef and she foraged a bit.
But it is all at half speed. She is currently sunning herself by my side.
I think molting must be exhausting. And maybe as they get older it takes a bigger toll on them.
She just looks how I feel (old and tired). I too am sunning myself.

The hens may come here for the winter, I don’t really want the ducks here so messy ( chickies are messy enough!) but my niece is trying to talk us into taking them for the winter.
I agree, for how cute ducks are in my opinion the mess just is not worth it. Especially in the winter. I have to ask, if you "board" these hens throughout the winter, are you going to give them back?
