This morning, I’m sneezing again. (Allergies to oatmeal with scrambled eggs and yogurt maybe?) :barnie
Ever think it’s a cold??? I am sure I had one last week, runny nose headache that won’t go away anyways… coughing… feeling crappy.

Can chickens get colds 😳 I think cats can…

Kicked into Action

Gucci's death gave me a push I needed to rectify an oversight on my part. Three ladies have passed on without ever having their bum silhouettes put up on the house. Sunday, in Gucci's memory, I put up the bum silhouettes for the three surviving ladies and rehabbed Phyllis' messed up one. I still need to rehab Sydney’s and Aurora's.

Dunno Bob about Lady F - doesn’t she have speckles and spots?? Love Phyllis so cute with her hairdo 💕

It’s such a lovely idea to have their portraits 🥰

Commercial feed is designed for commercial farming operations in general. It will provide a good basic nutrition. We have often discussed on this thread how chickens, when given options, will change what they eat based upon what they see their needs as being.

Molting being the biggest example. In most cases, chickens who are molting are looking for higher protein feed and may sun commercial layer feed for other foods sources.

The 90/10 rule really applies if you are their only source of feed. If your chickens can scratch for worms and bugs, eat grass, etc. then you are actually only providing a small amount of their nutrition via chicken feed. There is no realistic way to judge a 90/10 ratio as they may spend the whole day eating nothing but seeds.

I give my chickens a lot of credit for knowing what they need to eat. There is feed available at all times. They eat very little feed outside of the winter. They seem to know not to over graze any one food source in the yard. In fact, they will leave corn and meal worms for later if I do give them some.

In short, I have learned to provide options and trust them to eat what they need. I think it has worked for me on the most part. I do think Aurora is a little over weight but that is her choice. I can't really stop her from eating. And now that she is queen, she has dibs on everything. 🤷‍♂️

I always say if they are running around active alert then your doing it right.

That's my rooster Théo, he's a mutt cross bantam. And unfortunately he's not adorable at all 😱.

A nice colour surprise ☺️. If I understood right it wasn't his dad that threw in the colour though! What size was he ?

I had no clue they came in such colours, we only have them in black and white here (silver).

If she wants to avoid the drama, I suppose you could supervise her going to roost, or carry her once the other two have settled down.
I'm not a fan of forcing them to sleep on the roost when they don't feel like it because, at least for mine, it happens rarely and usually for some good reason. But I suppose you could try it one evening and depending on how she reacts, decide whether you do force her to roost or whether you reopen the box she has chosen ?
I think he is adorable! Just about any bantam is adorable too me, they are tiny chickens! :D I had a friend who had this very pretty orange colored booted bantam with little brown and white specks all over her. I love Théo's coloring. To me, chickens who have different shades and cookies in their feathers are so pretty! Don't tell my white leghorns I said that though. But of course they are beautiful to. Mine have huge tail feathers that they fan out. They almost look like peacocks.

She had a Mille Fleur Belgian D'uccle? Those are so pretty! I wish the colors were found in standard sized.
