Boring!

I filmed tonight's roosting in the main coop. 15 minutes of film and nothing to show for it except a confused mean Aurora.

I am named the roosts after the hens most associated with them. Here is a chart for your reference.

Betty jumped up on the Daisy roost. Tried it out for a bit and then jumped down and went into the nest box. I wish she would not do that. They were full of poop when I cleaned them out today.

The next 19 minutes were spent watching Aurora scratch around in the new straw, chasing Lady Featherington out a she tried to scratch around. Once Aurora was done scratching around she ran Hattie out of the coop and spent a solid 5 minutes trying to choose a roost.

She got up onto the Daisy roost and tried to go from there to the Maleficent roost. However there is no direct jump from Daisy to Maleficent. So she hoped down, checked them all out again, and then went back to her normal spot on the Lilly Roost.

When Aurora went up, Sydney came down as she had already roosted while Aurora was stomping around.

Hattie came back in the coop and lay down in front of the camera.

Once she settled and the view cleared, Sydney went back up on the Lilly Roost next to Aurora.

The end. Everyone is where they always are. 🤷‍♂️

A non event - for me that would be perfect!

I saw Hattie there last night when I checked in, I had hoped she would get up on the one roost. But you know my silkies want to roost in the bottom nest box, I move them if they do because of the rat I saw there in the Hen House 🥺

Can you block the nest box so Bettie can’t get in?

It seems sometimes they never do as we would want them to 🤣. Maybe they need some time to decide to change?

I have to admit I'm kind of dreading roosting time now. I don't dare leave them on their own. It seems I have two roosters and at least two hens decided on raising hell.

Beautiful photo. Who is the chicken ?

Funny how rules are different, here it's forbidden to hunt bucks during the rut which happens much earlier, more or less at the beginning of the hunting season mid september. Maybe because they hunt here in groups with dogs that push the game toward the posted hunters (not sure how to translate this) so the buck doesn't have a lot of chance at survival and they want them to reproduce.

I would love to see some photos of Dirt on one of the next pony Sundays 🙂.

Here the gun season starts in September. The seasons are designed to protect does with young.
I don’t hunt but we have a huge white tailed deer population and the hunters are really their only predators so hunting is encouraged in order to keep the population under control.
I am hoping I get to benefit from some venison!

2fer Tuesday

I give you a high/low picture.

RE: I hear you on the bedtime drama.

Here it goes up and down, sometimes drama sometimes quiet. My moulting gals are grumpy so they tend to start things if anyone gets too close.

Managed to catch the blood moon total eclipse at 5:15 this morning.
There won’t be another lunar eclipse for 3 years. Maybe I can use that time to learn how to get a decent photo of it!

Twofer/Tax. The Princesses are showing their deep and abiding interest in lunar eclipses.

I got up to check it out but it was so low on the horizon behind the trees I couldn’t see it,

Took a nice sunrise photo and a photo of the willow tree glowing in the glow of the dawn 😊

And that got me singing Morning has Broken (another great Cat Stevens song ❤️)

Morning has broken like the first morning…
