Easiest way to tell: when it flies, does it stretch its head out like a goose does or does it tuck the head in close? Stretched out is the crane. In close is the heron.
Branch threw a fit and I ran to the back door to see it back in the creek. I opened the door and it took off over head. It did not fully tuck it's head in, more like a s pattern as it took off. So it is safe to assume heron then right?

Thank you. I wonder how long these guys live for. We have a nesting pair of them. If it has been the same pair all these years they have been visiting my backyard going on 14 years now. Twice in all that time they had a single young adult with them.
I read that their life span is about 15 years.
No they only have 1 to 2 young their entire lives which is avg of 15yrs
They have 1-2 young per year.

Happy Friday!

Moving fluffy butts. Second pic she wouldn't stand still long enough - multiple tries to just keep her in frame!

It Keeps Getting Worse

It started as sleet.

Everyone ran into Hattie House except the molting hen. What the crap Aurora!

Then it turned to snow. Glynda and Lady Featherington's first snowfall. While I had to bribe them out they did not seem to mind the snow too much

The sound! snow+happy chicken, soooo soothing. Thanks for sharing.

If I had the time, I would create a 5 hour long video/audio that is repeats of this video/audio. This would put me to bed. 🥰
