Some more mugs and other pictures I got. Momma hens littles are 2 weeks and 2 days old now.

Goose has fully integrated herself into this group of girls. They no longer keep her on the edges of that group which also leads me to think she is laying now and is accepted by them.

Wow, you really have beautiful girls ❤️

Oh they gave me medicine for the nausea. I got Zofran right before the anesthetic, and then they gave me more when I woke up and started vomiting. This is the first time I have ever gotten sick like that from anesthesia, and I have been under many times. I have also had Hydrocodone many times over the years, but not sure I have ever had Fentanyl or Morphine. I think it was the combination of the medications and the pain that caused me so much trouble.

I am very uncomfortable but tolerating things reasonably well today. My doctor told me they frequently wait a few days before doing surgery on this type of break to let the initial swelling go down, plus so they can take me off my blood thinners the day before. :barnie :th

Ouch tax

Sorry about all the pain and uncomfortableness. Hopefully you can get your surgery soon and well done!

Brownie is a FBCM and Flour, Sugar, and Powder all have quite a bit of Marans in them. So 4/10 plenty enough to make my life interesting 🤨 to say the least. I could deal with Broody if they could just lay eggs and brood in a reasonable location, like oh idk one of the 4 nest boxes!!
Last summer three of my silkies went broody every other month... Marty decided she didn't want to be broody. Until August! Then she brooded for about 35 days, and quit! She hasn't been broody since.

But the most interesting part was the fact that Buttercup, Misty, Whiskers and Dorothy all went broody! My barnyard mutts were just as hard core broody as my silkies!

Now Buttercup, Misty and Whiskers are all hatch mates, from the year before, and they all stayed broody for about a month, in fact Misty and Whiskers brooded together in the same nest. I would drag their fluffy butts out of the nest boxes a couple times a day to eat, drink, poop and fluff in the dirt, then they would run back to the nests.

Dorothy though is Queen Penelope's daughter and was born last October from the clutch of 4 eggs I set under Henny Penny; Penelope has never in all her almost 7 years shown the slightest interest in being broody! So it was a surprise to have Dorothy go broody, she wasn't even a year old! And boy can that girl sit tight! 6 weeks she stayed broody. I would haul her butt off the nest a few times a day, some days 4 or 5 times a day, she would eat, drink, poop and run back to her 'nest'.... Finally she gave up one day!

Then she went through the most horrendous molt! Poor girl, likely scarred her for life and she will never be broody again (here is hoping at least!).

So every one of my youngsters except Rose went broody last year! Only the 3 older ladies (Penelope, Blanche, and Sophia) along with Rose (Blanche's daughter) didn't go broody! Likely have that bunch this year haha!

Meimei is on the right (dirty dirty butt. We gave her a butt bath yesterday, which can last a week... She can't press her feathers down well enough. She only started to have this problem since egg laying. I am a little concerned. Anybody have any thoughts?)

How mucky does it get? I can't remember seeing a photo of it.

That's a pretty good height!
I am seriously thinking about taking down the top roost, which would leave the highest one at about 4 feet. Easier to check on them and to clean it. I had to put that top one at first when I was tempting them away from the electrical conduit. But the bigger they get the less I like them jump/flying down from that high.

Mine (fat as they are) still make the 8 foot jump from the rafters every day. If my rafters were higher up, the chooks would climb higher up too. :old :idunno
