Sister Lark in the carport....

Was rousted out by the Idiot Duo who headed back toward the coop, then off to harrass the hens by the house.

And she went in search of a better place to lay

Hmmm, the lilacs...

Maybe a better spot round the other side...

How about under the spruce tree?

No, no, not there

What about further down the lilac hedge?

Whiskey came over to supervise and sound the all clear.

I'll go nest hunting later...possibly with the magpies assistance...

What does everyone think on this chick. If I have a 2nd male in Momma hens group it is this one.

They turned 5 weeks old on Saturday. It's brother was obviously a boy at 2 1/2 weeks. He already also has twice as big of a comb then this one. I just cannot make up my mind yet. One day it is a pullet, the next day I think maybe late developing male.

It is done....

The newest planned additions to the gang have been ordered and paid for. 5 Dark Brahmas, and 5 Bielefelders. Huge gigantic chickens to go with my teeny tiny fluffies :)
Yay, new chicks to look forward too.
Now that the deed is done and they are paid for I can say the one thing I have commonly heard about Brahma's. Everything I've read or heard about on here is that the hens are prone to be frequent broodies. They should fit right in with your silkie gals.

:th
These chickens!
Babs flew up to the rafters but failed to land so fell the 11' to ground.
But now it is getting really dark - and probably darker up there without the windows.
So she decides she won't be able to make it up there tonight and is leaving Eli up there alone.
Bernie was already comfortably roosted in her favorite spot and wasn't paying much attention.
So what does Babs try to do? She tries to take Bernie's spot! So Bernie savages her. And Babs just hunkers down.
Next she tries to cuddle up to Bernie who is having none of that!
Now they are both on the roost maybe a foot or so apart from each other and preening in a way that means they don't need to catch each others eye.
I think everyone is unhappy. Babs is clearly nervous about her bunk-mate, Bernie. Eli is all on her own up in the rafters. And Bernie is grumpy at having her routine disturbed.
Even I am not very happy about it because I am sure this is a one-off event and Babs will be right up there tomorrow night. I just hope she doesn't try to go up there in the middle of the night.
As I said, :th
