Hatch Day is Here

I just woke up. Here is Sydney. No sign of chicks yet.

I really need you to come to our Farm and lecture the C*** out of everyone here @Shadrach ! Please??? I keep saying this over and over to no avail... sure the 8 year old can almost be excused for poor handling but all the adults involved? I call the first bit of the quote “the hand of doom” swooping in like an arial predator spooking everyone and violently snatching the babies up :he I can only imagine what a mama hen would think of the maneuver. This is why, of the first chicks I hatched out here, the Roosters want to attack the kiddo (just her, other kids are generally ok... just arousing some suspicion)
It's not what people want to hear Kris and the incubator crowd just encourage bad practice further.

All Set

I have the feeder and water set up all finished and ready to go. I just can't figure out where to put it! :barnie I need it to be in full camera view without blocking a nesting box.

Here is the setup.

I think I found a place that will work as long as Phyllis doesn't roost right at the end of the roost and poo in it overnight.

I can extend Broody Cam's coverage a little wider when the time comes.

I guess I have done all I can at this point. It's up to them now.

Oops! Forgot the marbles. Yikes!
I have to be honest and write the pictures above brought a huge grin to my face.
You'll understand when you look at what I provide.
I'm busy. Go away whoever you are. (Large).JPG

I like to have food and water in the nest for the first couple of days. Mum can and does call the chicks to eat and drink while still being able to hatch slow eggs and keep the newest hatched warm.
What you have is great for once they leave the nest but I would consider a small bowl of food and water in the nest for the first few days. Yup, they'll make a mess, tip the water over, poop in the food and generally turn the place into a slum. You just have to clean up a bit and refill.

Almost astonishing how flat they can get. I understand the pancake descriptions now. 😆
You may not see the chicks for the first 12 hours after hatching. Some mums won't let them out. You can tell if they're hatching, or have hatched by mums behaviour and the noises the chicks make as they eat break the old shells.
