I'm thinking something that isn't likely to tip over. I will kanoodle on this.

There is not as much spare space in my nesting boxes as there is in yours. Could I put them right in front of the box? I don't think I could get them in the box with her.
I've put half a handfull of feed on the floors of nest boxes before and it's been fine. It ends up there anyway. Maybe even better in you situation given you have other hens coming and going. The water right by the nest box edge should be fine.

OK. I will set that up today. I am going to leave the others in place so they become a natural part of the coop.

It's easy to forget, particularly on BYC which is so heavily orientated to hatchery and incubator chicks that hens do this outside on a pile of earth with no assistance from humans at all, and in general get better hatch rates and healthier chicks.

Very true Shad, but us humans are such "worry warts" :barnie

I know. I still sit with hatching mums pleading for a gimps of the chicks.:D I'm a bit miffed that I can't let any more hatch this year with the current population.:( I'm not short of volunteers.

I just can't help it. It is hard to just trust her but I know I need to. She should know but she is only 9 months old.
