Let's add one more girly, plus a rooster in the background to the mix in celebration of Bernie's first egg.
Thank you. I love the celebration of Bernie’s first egg from around chickendom. It makes up for my disappointment at not being home for the event.

We all know how much this means to you and are sorry you could not be there. It's the least we could do.

Hello Penny - are you getting through your molt? Your mama suggested some lovely netting which I am really drawn to, I just need to talk myself into it :) What do you think?
Penny says, "Hello fellow Canadian! Yes, I am all done my molt now and am laying lots of eggs. Pretty soon it will be time for me to go broody! Do you think that I can beat my record of going broody five times in one summer? I think that I will give it a try!

Regarding the netting, I think you should go for it. Did you know that one of those awful raptors that we constantly watch for was thwarted by our netting?! It's good stuff!"

Why would you choose the 50x50 option if your run is only 16' wide? Wouldn't the 25x50 (at 1/2 the price) make more sense? That would give you plenty to fold over the sides some for security...and still have the 50' length. While it won't cover the entire run length, it will give you a GREAT start. And, while $300 isn't anything to sneeze at, it is a bit easier to swallow than $600.
I would check Amazon they are cheaper on netting.

I am afraid to use any hay, since Crystal enjoys eating it. I do NOT want to be dealing with crop surgery on her again.

The buckets definitely get poop on them. Usually it is dry enough I can just shake it off the lid, but sometimes it requires a little more cleaning.

I have no idea where to get those from. What kind of places carry them?

I ordered some “chicken toys” from Amazon tonight. Hopefully it will help.

I get the rice hulls from the local feed store. I think they are in 60 pound bags! I bet your birds will love the toys you got then!
