Thanks everyone for your opinions on the missing eggs. The snakes we have here, green whip snakes and aspic vipers, hibernate in winter, so it doesn't seem likely. Rats are a possibility though we haven't seen any for ages.

We have loads of crows but I don't think they would have been able to get in at night..unless it was done during the day and I didn't see it!
So it will remain a mystery...
And thanks RC for the info about eggs exploding. I will put some fresh ones in, every morning and take them off for the night from now on.
I cycle them daily. I leave a new one and take the one from the day before.

Oh.... that's a lot... ha, good thing I have six more years 'till I'm an adult!! 🤨 Can you guys do math? I am planning on getting an intern at a vet office, and then probably getting a job a little later on.
I started babysitting when I was 12, saved all my money for my Rabbits and Cavies (guinea pigs) - I used to raise and show them :)

Wish I had chickens back then! Think how much knowledge I would have by now!

Willing Workers On Organic Farms. Usually younger folks in their early 20’s, often from Europe. People who will work limited hours on farms in exchange for housing and meals, but no pay. A lot of people do this to see other parts of the world. It’s a program where you pay a small fee to register and it allows people to coordinate their stay. It supposed to be about 20hrs a week of work. It’s basically what has kept this farm afloat the past decade or so, without any younger folks to help with labor.
I am so glad that PtR asked that hahaha - I was also wondering but didn't want to look silly esp after asking about "BIL" hahaha! (Kris - laboUr)
Thank you, and I've found it on Premier and will look at Kencove. I could not get to any pos/neg poultry netting (only the electronet for large animals) on Premier's site when I was on my tablet, and the same on my phone. Now on the PC I find it in one second! Uneven ground and sneaking under or digging might be an issue. Have to give it more thought. Thank you!

A favorite mug, Queenie in January 2021. She got everyone doing the egg song when she started laying, and then everyone was singing whenever anybody laid. Now that she's gone, no one sings the egg song reliably anymore. :( It's once in a great while. The Buckeyes are hatchery born, but with her they always sang, and they continued for a while after she passed. But it's pretty sporadic now. They wail needing to get into the nest box and lay, and also somebody almost crows once in a while, which is great to hear. But very little egg song. Strange!
I think I'm going to get at least two Buff Orpingtons in Queenie's honor when I get more chickens, as @RebeccaBoyd suggested.

Oh she has lovely wattles 💕 and I love her colour - like butter. I think it's a great idea to get a couple more :) don't let me and @RoyalChick have all the fun getting chicks :)

FYI: did you know that AVGas is used for jet fuel and is also used for my single engine Cessna engine? :D
YES - we have to keep a special tanker of fuel on hand here for the medi-vac helicopters just in case we need to call one in from Grande Prairie (they can't make the round trip on one tank). Also there are all sorts of choppers flying around here....

🤣🤣🤣 I am getting a good education, luckily my parents push me hard! I am in gifted/honors classes, even though I struggle with math....
Math is tough - stick with it - you need it forever (so it seems to me!).

Why are yours?
Alex ! Ignore him PtR - Jaffar, tell you Human to behave!!

That’s what you say now! :tongue
Oh Jaffar - were art thou? Your human is misbehaving!

I cycle them daily. I leave a new one and take the one from the day before.
I a dreading going home and doing a search of the barn - I am sure to find 100 semi-rotten eggs hidden away somewhere I am sure!

More Monday Mugs

The Leghorn fooled me. She’s still laying her beautiful white eggs this season. (Those I save for myself) mmmm good! :drool
Is there a reason she made you think that she had stopped laying? Was she not laying? I am wondering if Penelope has laid any this year….
