First chicks

They seem to be doing ok, some are more active then others, so I am making sure no poopy butts and crops with stuff in them

Middle one in these photos is that wee one that was poorly, she seems to be doing ok, but I am still not letting my guard down.

@GregnLety : I drew up some rough plans with you in mind....but camera battery needs to charge. Will post later today.

BTW: It is completely fine if you hate the idea, I am toying with more tractors, and futzing around with different concepts, so this is good for me even if it isn't for you :lau

Edit/PPS: Some of the dimensions were partially for best use of lumber/plywood, but still with access. You might want it to be taller if you will walk into it.
@bgmathteach did you post the plans yet? I had company yesterday so I wasn't online.

Have you told your mom yet about the impending chick invasion? ⁉️⁉️:lau

You could try tucking a chick under when they are sitting on their nest and then observe closely. Being prepared to intervene, of course. Not sure if the will try when the chicks are penned up.

Love the little cups! This reminds me to get out the waterer I made and have the ladies get used to it!

I've put off making this post hoping I was wrong but I fear I am not. Something has happened to Meeko. She just vanished Wednesday after she laid her egg. I've searched and found no sign of her, no feathers nothing. She did like to spend a good part of her day on the hill and I have not been able to climb it to look for her. I have a slimmer of hope that she is off broody somewhere, but I really doubt it. She had shown no inkling of going broody and was laying her egg outside of Louis stall. What is even more weird is that the rest of the flock never made a peep. Everyone acting totally normal so if something got her they surely did not see it.
Oh no! I’m sorry about Meeko. Can someone else check the hill for you?

Chicken Palace

I have often talked here about how the Chicken Palace is built on a steep slope and how the rafters are 11’ up which is why I can’t get Babs or Eli down off their roost at night.

Today I was doing a bit of cleaning and restocking of food and water prior to my trip and I got this picture which I think gives a good sense of the height and the slope down and out to the run where my chair is.

I don’t usually get pictures from this angle and thought it was quite cool so wanted to share.
Does anyone see anything odd? Something that definitely caught my eye.

Let me zoom in a little and maybe you will spot it.

Do you see it now?

Yes indeed. It is an egg.
I have no idea how long it has been up there. Judging by the size it is a Babs egg. She missed a couple of days laying last week (or so I thought!). She must have laid it early one morning before it was light enough to fly down from the rafters. Did I mention the 11'?
