OMG these Hens are going to be the death of me - I was doing chores and it's just miserable raining. So I figured everyone was inside and I shut the front barn door. While I was out dumping the manure pile I heard this frantic BAWK BAWK BAWK - Mr P and I ran for it - it was coming from outside the front door!

I ran and opened the door to Whiskers freaking out, she ran inside while I cursed her 10 ways up and down. Then I did a thorough head count to make sure everyone was inside.

Thank goodness I only have to count to 13! I spend just as much time running around counting and chasing after chickens as I do mucking out stalls!

Right now it's pelting down, so they are all inside - with all the doors closed! In a few minutes I will start on the painting of the office/feed room, I need to get my shelves, tools, feed bins and what-not all back in here organized (such as it is).

Oh the little time wasters! I have to give myself a stern "You spend THIS much time with the chickens each morning. Otherwise, you are going to have your breakfast burned, cold, or soggy." I have to count 12 grown hens in GP, then 9 pullets, 1 cockerel, 1 rooster. (In GP) In the "outside chickens" (The ones that are recovering from injury or molting, or in Sam's case, can't be with another chicken. It's mating season, which means that Nekbother will tear Sam apart with his spurs. And the same from Sam to Nekbother.) There are 3 grown hens, plus Sam, plus 9 cockerels. (One is in GP, because he would grab the other cockerels and drag them around. Moody teens.)

In my first batch of chicks, I had 50/50 for pullets and cockerels. Or, I would have but for my stupid, but sad, mistake. Now this was my first time cleaning out the chicks' stall in the barn, right? I put them in a tote, put some glass over the tote, because I don't want the outside chickens getting to them... So here I am, merrily cleaning their brooder out. Then I go check on the chicks. Copper is laying on her side, looking like she is dead. Well, she is! :hit And Copper is was a pullet. So I would have had 10 pullets and 10 cockerels.
I will not make that mistake again.

Oh wise Aurora - you are so wise and knowledgeable, all us ladies truly are in awe of you; maybe a bit of fear, but equally in awe!

I really am enjoying reading about how Coco wishes to be in the Tiki Lounge, I fear I do not have the figure for it, being a more well rounded lady in my older years. If I were younger I would wish to try my wings at Hollywood - I should think it would be a lovely place for any hen, sounds like a nice forest - Hollywood, sounds heavenly.

You know, in the past I had a crush on Foghorn Leghorn - so handsome and manly, and dreamy. Oh dear - shouldn't be telling secrets should I?

Well the ladies here at FBA, and the resident Felines, all hope our Hooman is enjoying his new Blueberry bushes.

Affectionately yours,

Pretty Hen

Yeah, and I have plenty. Here's Goblin's more handsome brother, Beans. He was such a pretty kitten, everyone assumed he was a she. Poor prettyboy!

Still has fashion model eyes even after an accidental fall in the tub.

They were part of a foster litter I took care of. And then I foster failed right away... Here's all 4 making themselves comfortable on my desk.

I still wonder how those other two kittens made out. They were just as cute, I just couldn't justify having 4 cats. But 14 chickens is fine, ofc. Funny how that works.

When I had another foster litter, the kitten pileup got even more extreme...

Some of my fosters were so outrageously fluffy...

This litter had 4 identical fluffy tabbies. I eventually could tell them apart, but I'm having deja vu with my 4 identical white leghorns...
