Why not hide the eggs and swap them for a night? Abigail went broody, snapped out of it, and now is trying to hatch wood again. I think she will snap out of it again tomorrow, based off of her patterns.

I hope you get better soon. I was sick for some time. I just let it run its course and seem to be fine (I asked a doctor, don't worry).
I think that I will give her fake eggs or something.

Maybe some bantams and use the guest room as an aviary??? Probably isn't a rule against pet birds in the house - she can just tell everyone it is an new type of parrot🤭🤭 Sebrights would fit that bill quite nicely - @GregnLety 's are beautiful!
The Sebrights only weigh a pound so they could pass as a pet😊

While Lety was out of town this past weekend I made the decision to turn the Guineas lose and leave them lose. After killing the copperhead in the pen that made the decision for me. They integrated fairly well with the chickens and dogs. This freed up their tractor se we moved Goldie and 4 in it.
I will be interested to hear how the Guineas loose works out - I am still wondering if I should get some and set them free here.
I would prefer to do it with the native quail but the bureaucracy around that is a bit daunting. I don't love to let a non-native species free to possibly take over but it seems I am able to do that and not able to help the native species that is extinct in my area. Weird.

I did look into the 'ooops some got away' option from my friend's neighbor - but it turns out he only has pheasants so I don't have a safe source of 'ooops quail' anyway.

Are you providing housing for the Guineas?

Last year I had the kiddos out in the horse paddock, I was sitting on my lawn chair When a hawk flew ver me and swooped down at Buttercup, who crouched down - so the hawk vered away and flew off - all in about 3 seconds! They move fast, everyone was ok but it sure freaked me out!
I've had multiple issues with hawks trying to snatch guineas. A while ago, they were out near our work shed. Luckily my whole family was out there, and we had some friends over.
The hawk swooped down out of no where and grabbed a guinea. I watched in horror. Luckily guineas will fight and wriggle to the death if something even touches them.
The guinea forced the hawk to drop him and land in a tree. The guinea was fine, just had a small limp.
Everyone walked right into the coop, after we could get them in there.
I've actually seen this happen quite a lot out here.

Ohhh yes. Get guineas.
-NOT A REQUEST-

They prefer to roost in trees and we have several to choose from. When the weather turns cold I'll have a coop or tractor for them.

Maybe not cluttering this thread - but at some point if I get my mind around it - I would love to pick your brain via PM on all the things for me to think about and set up for Guineas. I am still getting my mind around not being able to do the 'ooops' on the native quail but as hopes for that fade my mind will turn to Guineas again I am sure!

We have a smaller hawk which snatched a young pullet but I believe that hawk is too small to grab a Guinea or full size chicken. I learned recently we have bald eagles. I saw one less than a mile from our place but I don't know if they would bother with chickens.

I'd be happy to share what knowledge I have. Message me anytime 😊
