A few pages back you kind people advised me on how to get the little ones to start to roost on a real roost and not on the top of their fire escape.
I had plans to build a lower safety room for them and move them to the big roost but delayed because of the heat and the squabbles.
Well looks like they had other plans.

It isn’t the highest open window so I guess they chose that one for the company (however scary).
I will be stuck cleaning the windows and of course in winter the window will be closed. But maybe they will grow out of that spot before winter so I am going to let them figure it out on their own for a while.

I love that they took themselves out of the brooder :love in time, they'll put themselves on the roost too.

I've got problems.:( Cillin and Treacle are fighting again. They've been at it on and off all day.
It's always Cillin that starts it. He's managed to injure himself badly enough to warrant a vet visit in the morning. He's broken the point off one of his spurs.
The problem is I can't do anything about it. There is absolutely no point in separating them, even for a short period. I've tried with others in the past and the fights start as soon as they are able to get at each other.
The rule here is if a chicken is so disruptive it has to be removed from the tribe then it gets eaten. I can't see myself killing and eating either of these two.
I hope one will back down and in the past Treacle has. It's okay when it's just comb and wattle injuries and Cillins are a bit of a mess at the moment. The leg injury isn't really okay. It looks pretty nasty and while it isn't directly from Treacle, it was sustained in a bout of fighting.
I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Imagine fighting in 35C plus heat. They looked ready to collapse. If it continues the best I can hope for is one has a heart attack and dies quickly. Not much of a hope is it.
I looked in on them a little while ago and I just want to bang their heads together. They are roosting side by side as if nothing has happened.:he I fear this is not going to end well. I will be heartbroken to lose either of them.
Cillin, patched up.

I'm stressed.
Oh dear, no wonder you are feeling stressed. :hugs

Is it possible to file the pointy bits down on their spurs and nails to round them off so they can't hurt each other as badly?

Our pets make fools of us all! :lau

At least they are trying to roost closer to the "big" girls 😁

Actually @RoyalChick , just looking at the size of that lovely big branch, perhaps the babies need something of a smaller diameter to perch on at the moment?
I did wonder that myself, but naturally, being a Palace and all that(!), there are a range of roosts available of different sizes for the enjoyment of Princesses if all sizes. They are all at the same height. The smaller ones are out of camera shot.
The little ones have played and perched on the smaller roosts. I was optimistic!
But the smaller roosts are further from the Princesses and the window is higher. Given Minnie likes to roost on my head I am thinking they are height junkies and also want to join a flock.
I don’t think the window will be comfy for a grown hen, so I am hoping they will grow out of this phase on their own

That is awesome. :love

I believe that they will outgrow roosting there. I don't think their full grown bodies will fit. This will be fun to watch. :pop

I think they will. My Plymouth Rocks did that a few times when they were little but never anymore.
