The coop looks lovely! I'm surprised it didn't take longer, there's a lot of detail in it.
Thank you. Two days was plenty of work. I have to think of a better way to do it next year.

Maybe some stuff should have a warning: CAUTION "graphic violence " sequence
That is lovely Bob! Love Lilly's crown. And I get the coop having to look good. Ours is extremely visible too. Not hidden away in a corner.

I was wondering—are social hierarchies in flocks pretty stable, barring a prolonged absence or illness? I figure it must be, if Lily’s crown got to be painted on ( as opposed to a Velcro crown sticker...)I felt like the alpha hen needed some special recognition. I hope she likes it.![]()
I found this:

Im concerned it may be a lash egg. The scent might not come out til its opened up idk
I guess it could’ve been.. didn’t really fool with it much... what is a lash egg..?
Okay... I just looked em up and the ones I saw looked to be solid... mine was not like that at all.. more of a weird soft shell and all liquid inside that had run out so it was empty... so prolly not the same.. whew! Thanks anyway fren!![]()
Thank you @Ribh . I was with her at the end. Just like Patsy. I know you understand. Some wounds take a long time. She was so young. Not even 3. I think I may do a full series on here so everyone can revel in her amazingness.
I never thought I would have another like her. But Maleficent sure is trying hard.
I don't believe I have ever shared this photo before. Here we are that last day. I called in sick to spend one last day with her.

Unlike Patsy, Daisy did not pass in my arms. Patsy came over and Daisy asked me to put her down. She lay on the ground and Patsy lay with her until she passed. I always loved Patsy for that.

I work on the principle all knowledge is valuable ~ but there are certain things I just don't need to know & those I avoid because I know I will find them upsetting. As for the parents ~ monitoring after the event mostly I think. It is a difficult line for parents to walk & one reason BYC has the guidelines in place it does.As to the predator and meat bird forums there’s a line IMO. Drowning is not a humane method of killing anything. I also object and report some “activist” type videos (on FB back in the day) decrying skinning and fur trade. In the last 3 days, 4 raccoons have been killed and skinned here at the farm. Killing is “necessary” and quickly and cleanly done (except for maybe the one the dogs took down on their own as there wasn’t anyone there to shoot it) Skinning them is to not be wasteful. No, I do not want to try any coon recipes thank you very much. Any “graphic videos” should be clearly marked as such, and not contain anything that contravenes acceptable humane treatment of the animal, even in death.
Not everyone is going to agree on these things, that’s understandable. Cruelty shouldn’t be promoted or published, however there is also a case for knowing how to properly do things. A radical vegan who objects to any consumption of animal products will find even the most efficient and humane slaughtering offensive. ( edit to add: “so WHY are you in a meat bird forum???”) It’s a difficult line to walk, and I think that for the most part BYC does a good job of balancing it well. Also I don’t think that particularly young or impressionable people should be on the internet unsupervised/monitored/guided. And that’s on the parent or guardians.
