Ivy had her first bout of broody recently. She really embraced some aspects but not others. She was a big fluffy ball, stopped laying and did a lot of tuk tukking around, but she didn't sit. Well, come to recall, she took maybe 3 times longer to get up after laying her final ten or so eggs, but she didn't try to sit overnight.
So she was thinking about it but not committed. Sounds like it will happen someday though.

In the end, I talked myself into trying a hatch one day, so perhaps Ivy will be the one to do it. It took a lot of thinking but I eventually saw myself as complicit in ending the lives of young cockerels because I only buy pullets. So it makes no difference if I take home-hatched cockerels to the vet to be put to sleep, except they'll have been cared for, kept safe as possible and will never have known hunger. On the other hand, it makes a big difference if I can find them a proper home. So a hatch is on the cards.

Hooray! I'm so excited for you. Just don't do a lot of eggs and maybe you can get lucky. That's what I tried. 🙄 You will love it. There is nothing like hatched chicks. It is great. I highly endorse the experience.

I'll make the "look but don't touch" part of the chicken dreamhouse chick proof.

Still on an unleaded head, so I use lead substitute which has kept the lines and carb amazingly clean of any ethanol debris, but I have used Seafoam before winter hits which helps alot too. However, plugs are next on my hitlist of things to replace.
There are two stations near me which sell Ethanol Free gas :) which i prefer as ethanol eats rubber parts. Big problem for mowers and weed wackers.
