1861 to 1865.......Were we even ‘Canada’ then? Or a British Territory still. What year was that? Do I need to google this? What would one sense before google? Oh wait I know! I would ask the question![]()
Is that how you do it? New chicks in March and April every year?BUTTTTT...next fall when these current ones molt...not so much. Having chicks hatch anytime late March through late April will mean they will start laying in the fall when the others take a break......so, having one of your hens hatch and raise chicks - so they get integrated from day one - would actually be a GREAT thing.
No, I'm not enabling, nope, not at all!![]()
I think I remember the last time you got snow! You were giddy.Cuz we practically never get snow but when/if we do it truly brings joy like nothing else!! I can’t even begin to describe the joy it brings! Love, love, love it!!
Yes. Keep them out of the wind. Mine have survived down to -20°F safely locked in their coop.Same- we don’t get much snow in the city, so the one day it does fall each year is soo special! We play out there till we drop
Speaking of, there’s snow in the forecastThey are, however, also warning of a potential for temps wildly lower than the area has ever seen
… are chickens okay when it’s -2F out?!
You're not enabling? Well, you are an enabler.....BUTTTTT...next fall when these current ones molt...not so much. Mine have an infrared heater, food, heated water and deep straw for when the temp gets that cold. I turn off the automated door and force them to live in the coop. I let the door open last year and they went out. I did not think they would. Poor Glynda got frostbite. No more. I'm locking them in.Oh, wow, that's cold!
When we get single digits (above 0F), I know the chickens aren't going to want to come out. They all hunker down in the coop. I close the people door, and sometimes even the pop door. I'll put another bowl of feed in there, and a dish of snow. They will nosh on the snow when they're thirsty.
I'll take them something warm to eat a couple times a day too. Thank goodness we don't get that cold very often.
Move north..........Oh, don’t worry! I don’t think anyone or anything could ever ruin snow for me! It’s such a beautiful wonder down here!
I did live with lots of it in Colorado in my 20s but that was for such a short time but I loved it! Especially the silence!
It’s only snowed 5 times in my lifetime here and I’m almost 56! It’s sad!
You can always order 6 week olds.I am actually considering ordering me 6 chicks this spring! I’ve never done that before… always get mine from the feed stores or TSC. I didn’t know if you could only order six. But I am also afraid of what happened to Bob! I don’t think I could handle something like that![]()
