Look at that crop on Bernie!
Well she is a big gal - it takes a lot of food to satisfy her!
I hope it isn't an issue - it doesn't always look like that. Well it does after she stuffs her face and she does do that a lot.
I will keep an eye on her crop.

Here is a screen grab from the camera. It is before breakfast (but after a quick pre-breakfast snack). I think that looks OK - meaning she doesn’t have a bulging crop first thing!

The chooks are not going to happy this afternoon - they have been getting out and about every evening when I get home, I doubt they will today 😟

Finally some tax with all the weather conversation. Thanks @Ponypoor for following the rules.

The rest of you who are posting weather forecasts owe tax.

Come on. It's not that hard to grab a chicken photo and include it. You are already grabbing photos of the forecast. Geeze.

Aurora's looks like that often. Sydney & Glynda too. I don't think you have anything to worry about

Scary! Good job, Aurora.Bob, our resident red shoulder talk has been keeping on eye on my girls as well. In fact, he perched in the walnut tree over the run this weekend when the girls were in the little field OUTSIDE the run. I did my best at the aerial predator alarm call and the girls ran for cover. I kept talking to the hawk loudly and my dog was running around after she heard the call. I ran to the rescue of my slower girls with bad legs and hand carried them to the run. I’m not sure what would’ve happened if my dog hadn’t been running around. I need to replace my Nerf gun. I don’t know why the last one stopped working.
Hello Michelle - that is really scary, seems to be a lot of discussion on aerial predators. Even here I have seen a bald eagle, red tail and multiple times a sharp-shinned/coopers hawk (hard to tell difference).

Glad your ladies were all safe!

Mine have been out and about (or at least allowed out, but are still headed to bed by the time I get home. Hopefully I can get some fresh pics today.
Past two nights I have been putting them to bed so I can count the little monsters! As you know I have a few that just love to fly the coop! I have to drag them back inside with the lure of Reenie sharing her supper (always a big hit with the fence hoppers), then I have to herd them all into the hen house, and I have to shut off the lights, wait a couple minutes till they settle down - then I can count them! And find any that have slipped past me.

I tell you dealing with those chooks is more work then the horses!

Hahahaha awesome! My thoroughbred enjoyed rocknroll she definitely looks to see where the music is coming from when I play that.

The chickens like my belly dance music, and a lot of the Irish Newfoundland tunes I play, they will come and gather around when I play those tunes.

None of them is particularly interested in classical or country.

Play that funky music Hooman

The hawks are my number 1 fear. They are ever present these days. The girls must constantly be on the alert. They are their own best protection. I will not keep them locked in the complex all the time. It is not fair to them.

I will be increasing my netting coverage this weekend. I do now keep them locked in on bad weather days so there is less of a pattern for the hawk to see. I do think the cat helps as well as she is so big and would definitely go after a hawk in the trumpet vine or on the fence. They are going to have to strike from further away now because they can't be sure if Éowyn is there or not.
There's another reason to get a cat for me.

I have the Tree of Peace. I need a picture, but the yard has patio tables, chairs for said table, and a metal grate-ish thing kind of making it hard to get in the tree.

Oh they are clever and figure things out fast!

Thank you
Not sure what’s up here, and they don’t say anything online other than crews are working on the issue.

Tomorrow will be th bad weather day
