This is a fact. I lost a Polish chick whose hole never closed. Her brain popped through the hole and she passed.Okay, I’ve heard that polishes have a hole in their skull when they are chicks. Is that true? Does the hole ever fill in as they get older? I don’t want them to get hurt or anything. What if they peck each other in the head? Could that kill them? What about if they do that as adults?
The reason they have poofy heads is because their skull is vaulted. It pushes the feathers up into the air. Because of this there is a small hole at the back of their head which usually closes as they grow.
The chicks will not peck each other in the head hard enough to cause a problem. It is adult chickens which you need to worry about.
This is Legertha who passed because the hole did not close.
